With the Toronto Blue Jays finally losing, Boston is now the hottest ballclub in the AL East, and our Rays vs. Red Sox prediction looks at whether the home team can continue its winning ways in this new series after beating up on inferior competition.

The post-Rafael Devers Red Sox struggled out of the gate, but the team looks to be finding its groove lately. Though Boston would be objectively better if it still featured Devers in the lineup, the team has been receiving a real boost from its young players, and our Rays vs. Red Sox best bets focus on one especially talented rookie.

This one starts at 7:10 p.m. ET (MLB Network) from Fenway Park, with Walker Buehler getting the ball for the home team and squaring off against Taj Bradley. The Red Sox are marginal betting favorites, with one of our best sports betting sites offering this game as a pick'em.

Making my Rays vs Red Sox prediction was challenging because I'm still unsure whether Boston's recent success is real or due to them facing the lowly Nationals and Rockies.

I'm going to back them tonight mostly because I think this lineup can get to Taj Bradley, and the Rays could still be without one of their best hitters in Brandon Lowe, who's dealing with a core issue.

Sure, Buehler has been terrible this season overall. But he's been pitching quite well against the Rays, allowing five earned runs on nine hits across two starts (12 innings). If he can stay in line with those numbers tonight, the Red Sox will get a great chance of picking up their seventh straight win.

However, I'm backing Boston mostly because of the offense. Ceddane Rafaela has been making incredible strides as a hitter in Year 2 while playing Platinum Glove-worthy defense, Wilyer Abreu is trending toward 30 home runs in his own sophomore campaign, and rookie Roman Anthony is beginning to settle in after a slow start to his MLB career.

That latter point is exactly why I'm focusing on Anthony with my best Rays vs. Red Sox player props

Of Anthony's last 10 balls put in play, seven came with an average exit velocity of over 100 mph. Anthony boasts the fourth-highest average exit velocity among players with at least 50 batted ball events this season, behind only Oneil Cruz, Aaron Judge, and teammate Romy Gonzalez.

He already looks like a seasoned veteran if you watch Anthony at the plate. He's in complete control during every plate appearance, and he rips missiles all around the field whenever the outfielder does make contact.

Anthony might be a bit too far behind the eight ball to make any noise in the MLB Rookie of the Year odds. But pick him up in fantasy baseball if he's available, and keep firing up these daily hitting Overs, because Anthony is the real deal.

❓MLB betting FAQs

How do betting odds work?

Betting odds represent the probability of a specific outcome and determine how much money you can win on a bet. There are three main formats: American odds, Decimal odds, and Fractional odds. In the U.S., American odds are most common.

What is the run line in baseball?

The run line in baseball is a form of point spread betting unique to MLB. It typically sets a standard spread of 1.5 runs, meaning the favored team must win by at least two runs to cover the run line, while the underdog can lose by one run or win outright to cover.

What does moneyline mean in betting?

The moneyline in betting refers to a wager on which team or player will win the game outright, with no point spread involved. It’s the most straightforward type of sports bet—just pick the winner.
