New York entered this series with an MLB-best 16-4 record since May 6, while Los Angeles was under .500 (10-11) in that span. But perhaps the Yankees inflated their record lately with three consecutive series against teams under .500, including a Rockies team that may finish with the worst record in the modern era.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 7-2 in nine home series this season, including winning two of three series against teams currently over .500. Los Angeles showed how relentless its lineup is in the series opener while tagging Max Fried, who entered with the lowest ERA among all qualified pitchers, for a season-high six runs over five innings.

Now the Dodgers have a huge starting pitching advantage in this matchup with Yoshinobu Yamamoto - who ranks in the top five in ERA and WHIP - toeing the rubber. Prior to the team’s three-game winning streak in his last three starts, they were 3-2 in his previous five despite averaging 2.6 runs per game in that span.

New York’s bullpen has a narrow edge in xFIP and K-BB%, but each team’s relievers ranked in the top five in each metric entering the series, and Los Angeles' bullpen got deeper by acquiring former All-Star closer Alexis Diaz.
