Usually in Major League Baseball when an offense gets to face the same starting pitcher twice in a week, the advantage tips towards the batters. That is exactly the situation tonight as Rodon and Dobbins toe the rubber in a rematch from last week’s Sunday Night Baseball matchup, which the Red Sox won 11-7.

Rodon entered that start with a 0.72 ERA in his previous four starts, and his 1.27 ERA over the prior nine was his lowest in any nine-game span in his career.

However, Boston’s ability to hit left-handed pitching won out that day, as it lit up Rodon for five earned runs over five innings, and hit five total home runs in the game.

The Red Sox entered this series leading the majors by a wide margin in BABIP against left-handed pitching (.340), while also ranking top five in slugging, wOBA, and wRC+ in that split.

Hunter Dobbins earned the win in his last start against the Yankees just six days ago, when he allowed three runs on four hits over five innings. 

The fact that Dobbins did not strike out a single batter may have many looking at his strikeout total, but there is little value there with the Under of 4.5 juiced as high as -170. The fact that Red Sox manager Alex Cora removed Dobbins after just 64 pitches suggests there is better value on his outs recorded market.

Entering the last start against New York, Dobbins had allowed a .560 slugging percentage and pitched to a 9.53 ERA when facing a batting order for a third time. So even though Boston allowed 16 runs and six different relievers were used in the first two games of the series, Dobbins was still on a short leash, and should be on a similar pitch count tonight.
