The Winnipeg Blue Bombers aim to stay atop the Grey Cup odds in the West as they visit the Calgary Stampeders tonight at 9 p.m. ET (TSN, CBSSN) from McMahon Stadium in Calgary. Winnipeg looks like it's in good shape to reach a sixth straight Grey Cup early in the season. Mike O'Shea's squad once again has a dominant defense that's yet to give up more than 23 points in a game, and it should be capable of forcing Vernon Adams Jr. into a few mistakes - he's the only QB that's thrown two-plus interceptions this season but has yet to throw a TD.

Offensively, Winnipeg gets the reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player odds winner back in Oliveira. I have the Bombers taking this 30-24.

The Blue Bombers are off to such a hot start that they're undefeated against the spread. With a 3-0 record ATS, which includes covering twice when favored by more than four points, the Bombers are poised to punish a Calgary team that looked out of place the last time it was on the field.

Against the Ottawa Redblacks - and backup QB Dustin Crum - the Stampeders lost at home as 3-point favorites. Their offense generated just 12 points, and now Adams has to orchestrate consistent scoring drives against a perennially punishing defense. The Blue Bombers are allowing the fewest points per game in the CFL (19) and have shut down the run, allowing just 75 yards per game. That doesn't bode well for a Stamps team that relies heavily on running back Dedrick Mills.

It's not an ideal matchup for the Stampeders on the other side of the ball, either. Calgary's defense allows the third-most rushing yards per game (117.7) and it won't even be able to solely key in on slowing Oliveira with the way Zach Collaros and his receiver corps have been playing.

Oliveira is the best back in the league, and the Canadian has looked like Jon Cornish in his prime since his breakout 2022 campaign. Coming off back-to-back 1,300-plus rushing yard seasons, Oliveira managed just 49 yards, albeit on just two carries, in the season opener before going down. Now he's healthy and ready to rumble.

Given the Stampeders' inability to stop the run, and the Blue Bombers loving the ground game - they're third in rushing yards per game (127) - Oliveira should see a steady dose of carries in his return. He went Over 84.5 rushing yards in nine of his final 15 games, including playoffs, last season.
