With the second-shortest Grey Cup odds, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Edmonton Elks tonight at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg at 8:30 p.m. ET (TSN/RDS, CBSSN). Edmonton hasn't shown it's ready to compete with the best the CFL has to offer. In its two games against the BC Lions and Montreal Alouettes, the Elks have been outscored 69 to 42, losing both games by double-digits.

While Tre Ford can be dynamic with his mobility, Edmonton's offense is too inefficient to make a dent in a defense like Winnipeg's, and the Elks' defense is even worse than its offense. I have Winnipeg winning this game by a final score of 34-17.

The Elks' defense has been atrocious this season. It's allowing the most points per game (34.5) and the most yards per game (438.5) in the CFL. It's the reason Edmonton is 0-2 against the spread to start the year, and the team is 1-6 ATS dating back to last season when it played Winnipeg two weeks in a row. The Bombers blew them out in Weeks 16 and 17 last year by an average score of 41 to 20.5.

Don't expect it to be a different outcome this time around with the Bombers' offense putting up the third-most points per game (30.5), despite QB Zach Collaros being suspended for their season opener and reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player odds winner Brady Oliveira being hurt. Maybe being down Oliveira would be a bigger deal against a better team, but Matthew Peterson and Quinton Cooley haven't had any issues running the ball - they have Winnipeg leading the league in rushing yards per game (143.5).

On the flip side, O'Shea's defense continues to be one of the best in the CFL. It's allowing the fewest points per game (17) and the second-fewest rushing yards (66). That's why this is such a tough matchup for an Elks offense that leans on the run game with Ford and Justin Rankin. Winnipeg should be positioned to win a third straight game by more than 10 points.

No Oliveira? No problem. With the best back in the league still dealing with a shoulder injury, Peterson has filled in nicely for his fellow Canadian. The University of Alberta product has 172 yards on the ground through two games and can capitalize on this Over against an Edmonton team giving up 117.5 rushing yards per game.

Winnipeg building a lead and burning the clock should also help Peterson go for 54-plus against this Edmonton team. I'd take the Over on his rushing yards up to 60.5, while being mindful that Cooley could be splitting carries with him tonight after the former Liberty star had 43 rushing yards on seven attempts last week.
