British Grand Prix Odds, F1 Picks & Predictions 2024: Russell on Pole at Silverstone

Despite uncharacteristically slow practice sessions on Friday and a slight stumble in qualifying, Max Verstappen - who sits imperiously atop the F1 Championship odds - is again the formidable favorite as we attempt to emulate his recent success with our British Grand Prix predictions. 

Don't let his sluggish buildup to the race fool you. The defending British GP champion has won seven of 11 races this season and is expected to pop another bottle of bubbly on Sunday. He'll start fourth during the race after an all-British top three during qualifying at their home race, with George Russell taking the pole, Lewis Hamilton in second, and Lando Norris third.

Verstappen remains the narrow betting favorite despite behind being those three, though some of our best sportsbooks are leaning toward Norris. Russell lurks just below in third by the odds, too.

Favorite: Lando Norris ⭐⭐⭐

Besides a forgettable and anomalous effort in Austria, where he finished 20th, Norris has been knock, knock, knocking on the winner's door. Norris finished second four times in six races before the Austrian Grand Prix. He did one better by winning the Miami Grand Prix, his only victory of the 2024 season thus far. 

Norris hails from Bristol, so you can only imagine his motivation to win on home soil. As if he needs any added fuel, the McLaren driver finished second behind Verstappen last year at Silverstone.

Long shot: Lewis Hamilton ⭐⭐⭐⭐

At one point, I thought they'd change the race track's name from Silverstone to the Hamilton. The Mercedes driver has won a record eight races at Silverstone, the last in 2021. Does the Brit have one more magical race left in him on his home track? 

If there's one race in 2024 where he can take the checkered flag, it's this one. He finished third in the previous two races at Silverstone and has been excellent recently - finishing fourth, third, and fourth in the last three.

Prop: Max Verstappen fastest lap ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Verstappen has to win something, right? The runaway championship points leader had the fastest lap in two races thus far in 2024, tied with Fernando Alonso and Hamilton. The Dutchman had the fastest lap in Japan and Bahrain and has the speed and technique to take fastest-lap honors for the third time.

He also had the fastest lap last year en route to his first British Grand Prix title. Hopefully, he doesn't put a string of those together, or our Norris prediction might fall by the wayside. FanDuel's +220 odds will pay a profit of $32 on a winning $10 bet.
