It wasn't the start Piastri was looking for, with the McLaren driver finishing sixth in FP2, his worst result of the season so far. While he finished first or second in every other FP2 session this season, his sixth-place finish isn't worthy of any overreaction.

McLaren made some updates on its high-performance MCL39, which will take both drivers some time to adjust to. 

However, the car didn't lose pace and is still quicker than its competitors, even with Mercedes showing excellent speed in FP2. Until someone knocks Piastri off his pedestal, I'm backing the Aussie. He finished four places behind Norris in FP2, so there's a strong argument to shift to Norris. 

As of now, I'm not convinced Norris will have what it takes on race day to outduel Piastri, who has been noticeably more proficient throughout the season. BetMGM and DraftKings offer the best odds for Piastri to win, while FanDuel's +115 odds represent the worst value.

Best odds: +370 via DraftKings 

BetMGM offers +200 odds for Verstappen to win, while DraftKings has him pegged at +370 - the best price of our best sports betting apps. That's a profit difference of $17 on a winning $10 bet, a discernible gap. So, go with the outlier at DraftKings and snap it up before qualifying.

Verstappen finished first in FP1 but dropped off significantly in FP2, finishing in ninth. While that's disconcerting at face value, Verstappen didn't seem worried.

He opted to run with soft tires earlier than most in FP2, which cost him in the final standings. It looked like he was in the mood for a bit of experimentation after such a solid FP1 run. 

There's also the tidbit that Verstappen is attempting to secure his fourth straight win in Montreal. I'll take my chances on +370 odds for that to happen, especially after such a disappointing race in Spain. 

🎯 Best long shot to win Canadian Grand Prix: George Russell ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +1200 via DraftKings 

At +800, Caesars offers the worst price on Russell to win, while DraftKings' +1200 outlier is the best value. Even the +1200 odds don't constitute a long shot in the purest sense of the word. However, Russell is a long shot relative to the lack of parity in the field.

Nobody, except Verstappen, Norris, or Piastri, has won a race this season, and I don't see anyone other than Russell with a viable chance in Canada.

There is the argument either Ferrari driver can make a splash, but I'm not convinced after Charles Leclerc's crash in FP1 and Lewis Hamilton's inability to contend for most of the season. 

So, it's back to Russell, who finished first in FP2. He has an excellent track record in Canada, securing third place last season after taking pole position. A $10 winning bet would yield a profit of $120.

🔥 Best prop bet for Canadian Grand Prix: Lando Norris fastest lap ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +165 via DraftKings

I had to find a way to work Norris into my expert picks, especially after his impressive performance in FP2. Norris won the fastest lap in five of nine races, the same ratio of Piastri's wins. The MCL39 is still the undisputed fastest car on the circuit, and Norris is the most prone to putting together at least one flawless lap. 

If he does that in Montreal, he'll obtain another fastest lap. A winning $10 bet will yield a $16.50 profit. 

🚀 Best prop bet for Canadian Grand Prix: Will driver who starts in pole win? No ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +100 via BetMGM

About 43% of the drivers who have taken pole at the Canadian Grand Prix went on to win the race. The driver in pole position has won two of the previous four races at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with Max Verstappen claiming victory in 2022 and 2023. 

Last year, Russell took pole position but finished third while Hamilton won the race in 2019 despite finishing second in Qualifying.

I'm willing to bet there will be some movement in the grid this year, especially if Russell can replicate his FP2 performance in Qualifying.
