F1 championship odds

Seeing the McLaren colors atop the podium could be a common sight in 2025, and that's certainly been the case over the first two races.

After F1 championship odds favorite Lando Norris won the season-opening race in Australia, his teammate Oscar Piastri crossed the line first in Shanghai while winning the Chinese Grand Prix. Norris also finished right behind him in second, further demonstrating the dominance of McLaren, the defending constructors' champion.

Piastri's odds have shortened at our best F1 betting sites now as he inches closer to his teammate. There's a gap to the four-time defending drivers' title holder Max Verstappen in third after he ended up just off the podium in Shanghai, finishing fourth. Beyond him, there's already an absolute canyon to the rest of the field.

Some notes and quick observations about the F1 championship odds for 2025:

  • Norris' odds stayed stagnant atop the board after the race in China while many of his top challengers fell behind
  • But that doesn't include Norris' teammate Piastri, whose rapid ascent continued while he moved from +450 to +240
  • McLaren clearly holds the more dominant car than Red Bull, and Verstappen's fall continues after China, as he fell from +400 to +600
  • There's already a notable gap by the odds between the two rocket-fueled McLaren cars and the rest, and an especially colossal dropoff after Verstappen, with Norris at minus money and only three drivers listed at shorter than +2300 odds.
  • Charles Leclerc took an even more significant plunge, moving from +1200 to +3400 and out of the top five at FanDuel, and George Russell took a similar tumble while plummeting from +1400 to +2600

🏁Lando Norris (-138)

Norris remains the favorite after two races and the only driver in minus money. However, the distance between him and Piastri is narrowing fast, and we may see the two teammates jostling for position at the front of both the grid and the oddsboard all season long.

Yes, we remain in the infancy stage of a long season. But it's telling that there was an eight-plus-second gap between Norris and the third-place car in Australia (George Russell). And then in China, it was Piastri's turn to drive the race-winning McLaren, and the same gap grew to over 11 seconds.

There will be tweaks and adjustments from the other top teams as the data rolls. But at minimum, short term anyone in a McLaren is sprinting away, with Norris the more favored driver by the odds for now.

🏎️ Charles Leclerc (+3400)

There's suddenly plenty of long shots to choose from just two races into the season. But for now, at least, we're sticking with Charles Leclerc despite his poor showings to begin the campaign.

That includes a post-race disqualification in China for breaching weight restrictions. However, that came after Leclerc was challenging for a podium spot and fell just short, settling for a respectable fifth.

He may have now stumbled twice to start the new season (including an eighth in Australia), but Leclerc remains a driver to keep an eye on after both he and Ferrari spent the back half of last year rising up. He earned wins in Monaco, Monza, and Austin en route to finishing among the top three in the drivers' standings.

Leclerc was always hovering around the podium last year too while ending up there 13 times, eight of which came during the latter portion of the season following the summer break. His early struggles could be brief and lead to a buying opportunity. Especially at this outlier +3400 price from FanDuel, with Leclerc listed at +2500 through bet365.

πŸ“– How to read F1 championship odds

Reading F1 championship odds is simple once you know the basics.

Odds are typically presented in a format like +300 or -150. Positive odds (e.g., +300) indicate how much profit you'd make on a $100 bet. For instance, a $100 bet at +300 odds would win you $300, plus your initial $100 stake, totaling $400.

Negative odds (e.g., -150) show how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $150 bet at -150 odds would win you $100, plus your $150 stake, totaling $250.

Odds also reflect the probability of an outcome. Lower odds (e.g., +100) suggest a higher probability of the driver winning, while higher odds (e.g., +1000) indicate a lower probability. Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on factors like performance and betting patterns.

For example, if Driver A is getting +200 odds and Driver B is at +500 odds, Driver A is considered more likely to win. If you bet $100 on Driver A and they win, you'd get $300 back ($200 profit + $100 stake).

Reading and understanding these odds helps you make informed betting decisions.
