2024 Great American Getaway 400 Odds: NASCAR Expert Picks, Preview for Pocono Raceway

After a riveting street race last week, the NASCAR Cup Series returns to superspeedway racing this weekend at Pocono Raceway as we offer our 2024 Great American Getaway 400 expert picks for Sunday's race, which begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on USA Network.
Denny Hamlin won this race last year, and he's the favorite across our best sports betting sites to repeat on Sunday. He'll start in the second row on Sunday. He's also one of the co-favorites atop the latest NASCAR Cup Series championship odds, and another win Sunday could do wonders for his chances of taking the coveted regular-season title.
Ty Gibbs grabbed the pole position with a 170.031 mph lap during qualifying. He shares the front row with William Byron, who wrapped up with a 169.661 mph final round.

Pocono Raceway track analysis
Pocono Raceway, affectionally known as the "Tricky Triangle," is a uniquely challenging 2.5-mile track and one of the most beloved on the Cup Series schedule.
It's easy to see how this track gets its name. The triangle-shaped "tri-oval" features varying degrees of banking on its three turns, forcing drivers to adapt at high speeds and handle each corner with intention. Those dramatic turns can also lead to multi-car collisions at this superspeedway, resulting in last year's race ending under caution.
Nailing the proper setup is key for the track's long straightaways and sharp corners, which can place a premium on proper pit strategy and fuel mileage. It's surely not a coincidence that the last seven winners of this race were either former Cup Series champions or longtime veteran Denny Hamlin, a seven-time winner here.
Weather forecast for Pocono Raceway
Rain has been a predominant storyline over the last few weeks in NASCAR. And it could rear its ugly head again on Sunday at Pocono Raceway.
Sunday's forecast via AccuWeather.com entering the weekend is calling for a 40% chance of precipitation with a 24% chance of thunderstorms. That comes even with temperatures expected to reach as high as 88 degrees, with lows of 66 degrees.
Even if it does rain, this race could still include all 400 miles. But if recent races are any indication, we'll all be monitoring the skies with our fingers crossed and our anti-rain dances on standby.
The Great American Getaway 400 predictions, race preview
Picks made Friday at 6 p.m. ET prior to practice or qualifying. Odds listed below may vary from the latest prices above.
When it comes to superspeedway racing - especially at a track as treacherous as Pocono Raceway - it's best not to put all your eggs in one basket. That's why I won't be betting on race favorite Denny Hamlin (+400), even though he'd be my pick to win this race at longer odds.
Last year's win secured the seventh checkered flag at this track for the No. 11, not including a disqualified victory two years ago. Hamlin has led 827 of his 5,462 laps at Pocono - good for a whopping 15%, easily the best active mark - and his average start position (7.6) is by far the best in the field.
I also won't be betting on Martin Truex Jr. (+575), one of three multi-time winners at this track (Hamlin and Kyle Busch are the others), and his 257 laps led rank fourth in the field. He finished third in this race last year and is still looking for his first win of 2024 after four previous top-five finishes.
I won't even be taking Christopher Bell (+1300), who has been in the fastest car in the field for the better part of two months. He's finished in the top six in both races here in the Next Gen car, and Bell has led a ridiculous 294 of 694 laps (42.4%) over the last three weeks. He's +125 to finish in the top five, which is a bet I've already made.
Instead of betting any of those drivers outright though, I'm backing all of them - and more - while taking Toyota to win (-120). The manufacturer has won eight of the last 11 races at Pocono (not including the disqualification two years ago), and it registered the top three finishers and five of the top six in last year's race.
The one non-Toyota driver my eyes are on this week is Chris Buescher (+3100), who has felt like a breakthrough candidate all year long despite his winless streak. He's a previous winner at Pocono (2016) with four top-five finishes in his last nine races this year, and Buescher will be gunning for a victory to escape the dreaded playoff bubble.
For those looking further down the board, there's just something about Daniel Hemric (+150000) at this track. He qualified second and finished fifth here last year, his fifth top-10 finish in six career races at Pocono. I love his value to finish in the top 10 (+2500), and I'll be tossing a couple of bucks on his ultra-long odds to win, too.
