Mercury vs. Wings Prediction, Expert Picks & WNBA Odds: Can Dallas Turn Things Around?

The Dallas Wings host the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday, as we offer our best Mercury vs. Wings prediction and expert picks based on the best WNBA odds.
Entering the final week of May, the Dallas Wings (4-15) were 3-2 with hopes of staving off early injury woes and eventually making the playoffs. They've since lost 13 of 14 games ahead of Wednesday's clash with the Phoenix Mercury (9-10), which tips off at 8 p.m. ET on NBA TV from College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
The Mercury are 5-point favorites to beat the Wings across our best sports betting sites, which also have Phoenix installed as a top-six title contender by the latest WNBA championship odds. That comes even amid a two-game skid with losses to the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun, respectively.
Dallas, on the other hand, is one of the league's biggest long shots as it tries to survive with a depleted rotation. That's to be expected for a team with one win in the last five weeks.

Mercury vs. Wings predictions for Wednesday
Mercury -5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Look, I'll be the first to admit: I'm not in love with this Mercury team. There's no shortage of talent in their rotation, but they defend at a below-average rate and have struggled to win games on the road.
All of that is a bit more forgivable when facing an opponent like Dallas, which can't seem to string together any momentum this season. Even with Arike Ogunbowale and Natasha Howard back in the lineup, the Wings are coming off back-to-back losses to the Seattle Storm by a combined 45 points.
To put their recent misery into perspective: the Wings have been outscored by 11.9 points per game since May 31, the worst mark by any team in the league. They were recently swept by the Washington Mystics - who have just four wins all season - by a combined 36 points, and their last 12 losses have all come by seven or more.
That includes a 97-90 loss to the Mercury back on June 9, when Dallas still had Maddy Siegrist in the lineup. Without Siegrist (finger), Satou Sabally (shoulder), or Jaelyn Brown (illness) available for this one, I don't expect much to change on Wednesday.
Best odds: -108 via FanDuel
Natasha Cloud Over 11.5 points ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cloud is one of the best facilitators in the WNBA, ranking second among all players in assists per game (7.3) and seventh in assist rate (35.7%). But she's assumed a larger role as a scorer for this team as of late.
The nine-year pro clearly took a backseat in that department to begin her first season with the Mercury, but she's scored 11 or more points in five straight games while taking at least 10 shots in four of them. She's also gotten to the free-throw line at a higher clip while attempting more 3-point shots, too.
These -115 odds imply a 53.49% chance that she scores 12 or more - which she's done in four straight games - while paying out $8.70 on a winning $10 wager, per our odds converter.
Best odds: -115 via bet365
Arike Ogunbowale Over 3.5 threes ⭐⭐
I'm definitely less bullish on this alt-total bet than I am about the first two, hence the two-star endorsement. That said, I'm intrigued by the plus-money value on a total that is well within Ogunbowale's reach.
The Wings' top scorer - and second-leading scorer leaguewide (23.7 PPG) - has taken it upon herself to try to keep Dallas' playoff hopes alive. She leads the league in 3-point attempts (9.1) and makes (3.3) on a per-game basis, and she's drilled five or more triples in three of her last four games.
She "only" hit three in Monday's loss to Seattle, which allows the second-fewest attempts per game (20.6), but she's now facing a Mercury defense that ranks dead last in opponent 3-point attempts per contest (27.5). These +125 odds pay a $12.50 profit on a $10 wager if she does indeed clear this reasonable total.
Best odds: +125 via bet365
