For the third time this season, the Indiana Fever (9-13) and Washington Mystics (5-17) are set to do battle with the latest matchup coming Wednesday at noon ET from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Fever are 5.5-point favorites to beat the Mystics across our best sportsbooks after sweeping the first two meetings this season. Our Mystics vs. Fever prediction also favors Wednesday's hosts after they scored a huge win on Saturday over the New York Liberty - one of the top teams by the latest WNBA championship odds.

Mystics vs. Fever predictions for Wednesday

Fever -5.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Maybe I'm falling for a trap here, but this feels like a relatively easy call with how well the Fever have been playing as of late - especially against bad teams.

Sure, they've lost three of their five games overall, which was remedied with a stunning win over the Liberty on Saturday. That five-game run followed a four-game win streak in mid-June that included an 88-81 win over the Mystics.

Against teams currently with a losing record, Indiana has won five of its last six games with an average scoring margin of plus-six. Meanwhile, the Mystics have lost four of their last five overall in their worst stretch since losing 12 straight to open the season.

With the way Caitlin Clark is playing, in particular, I like the Fever's chances to extend their current five-game home winning streak on Wednesday.

Mystics Under 81.5 points ⭐⭐⭐

For all of the issues facing the Mystics right now - and there are plenty - scoring the basketball has proven to be the toughest challenge of all.

Washington scored just 67 points on Saturday against the Minnesota Lynx, which came after a 77-point effort against the Las Vegas Aces. The Mystics have scored 82 points or fewer in four straight games, and their 78.5 points per game ranks 11th out of 12 teams in the WNBA.

With leading scorer Brittney Sykes (foot) still on the mend, Ariel Atkins and Co. are doing all they can to lead the charge, but it hasn't been enough. I'm not in love with these -125 odds, which pay out $8 on a $10 wager, but I do still fancy this wager against an improving Fever defense.

Caitlin Clark player props vs. Mystics

Caitlin Clark Over 31.5 pts + reb + ast ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Earlier this season, we were making a killing by fading this exact prop before each and every Fever game. It might finally be time to flip the switch on that ... or at least when the matchup calls for it.

Since scoring just seven points in a June 13 win over the Atlanta Dream, Clark has averaged 17 points, 9.8 assists, and 7.8 rebounds - good for a combined total of 34.8 - while clearing this total in five of eight starts. That includes Saturday, when she posted the first triple-double (19 points, 13 assists, 12 rebounds) by a rookie in WNBA history.

While the Mystics aren't quite as bad defensively as they are on the other end, they still rank eighth in defensive rating (102.7) and let Clark combine for 36 PRA when these teams last met on June 19. I like her chances of clearing this total once again.

Caitlin Clark Over 8.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐

The wager above is likely a safer bet, hence the higher star rating. But I'm still mighty intrigued by this wager at even money on Clark to stay hot as a playmaker.

We were onto Clark's growth as a passer even before this recent hot streak, but she's made a statement with at least 11 assists in four of her last five games. That's incredible in its own right, but she's also posted at least six assists in nine consecutive games with 9.3 assists per contest in that run.

Clearly, Clark has turned a corner as a facilitator, and I'm compelled by these odds on her to reach a mere nine assists - four fewer than her total on Saturday.
