There is only one WNBA game scheduled for Saturday, but it will have regular-season and Commissioner’s Cup implications. Both the Storm and the Wings will look to get back in the win column when they tangle in Arlington.

It has been a rough start to the 2023 season for the Storm (5-3-1 against the spread, 4-5 Over/Under) as predicted. Seattle lost arguably its top two players in the offseason and is now a shell of the team that won a title just three years ago. The Storm are coming off a lopsided 33-point loss against Las Vegas two nights ago.

The Wings (3-6-1 ATS, 5-5 O/U) have had their fair share of losing seasons in recent years but appear to be a team that is trending in the right direction overall. Dallas carries a .500 record into Saturday afternoon’s matchup. However, the Wings have lost their last two games and four of their last six overall after a 3-1 start.

Bettors have one previous head-to-head data point to reference when handicapping this contest. The Storm hosted the Wings on May 26 in what was the second game of the season for both teams. Dallas came away with a four-point road win in a game that featured 186 total points scored. 

Though it may be a bit far-fetched to expect that kind of offensive output in Saturday’s rematch, it’s still hard to look at anything but playing the Over given what our best sportsbooks have the total listed at. DraftKings’ line of 164 sits a full 22 points below what the teams combined for in that previous matchup.

The recent form of both teams when it comes to O/U results is undoubtedly one of the reasons why the line sits where it does. Each of the Storm’s last five games has stayed Under the posted game total, and none of those contests had a line higher than 168.5. In a similar vein, the Under has hit in five of the Wings’ last six. 

There are a couple of stats worth noting with regard to this matchup. The first is the fact that the Wings love to push the pace. Dallas comes in averaging 75.3 field-goal attempts per game, which is five more than any other team in the league. Meanwhile, Seattle has allowed opponents to shoot 46% from the floor which is by far the worst mark in the league.

Because the Wings prefer to turn games into a track meet, they allow their fair share of shot attempts and points at the defensive end, as well. The Storm may not have as much offensive firepower as in previous years, but Jewell Lloyd and Ezi Magbegor are a potent duo. Meanwhile, Arike Ogunbowale and Satou Sabally are both averaging over 20 points per game for Dallas.

Combine the expected fast pace with the gifted scorers on both rosters and below-average defense and the Over makes for a sensible play.

For those looking to have action on the Over in this matchup, DraftKings is the preferred sportsbook. At the time of writing, the line of 164 sits at least a half-point below all other major sportsbooks and is a full point lower than the game total offered at Caesars. 

Although the consensus line is four points higher than the closing number for the first meeting between the teams this season, it doesn’t feel like a large enough adjustment given how that matchup unfolded. The Wings’ run-and-gun style and the sub-par defensive numbers of both teams only support this prediction.
