The best players in the world will take center stage Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET (ABC) in the WNBA All-Star game at Footprint Center in Phoenix. Team USA is the 5.5-point favorite by the latest WNBA All-Star Game odds across our best sports betting sites as we offer our best WNBA All-Star prediction.

The Americans are also the overwhelming favorite in the most recent 2024 Women's Olympic Basketball odds to win a record eighth straight gold model. The team is also expected to take Saturday's tuneup against an All-Star cast that includes rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, among other top WNBA stars.

Here's everything you need to know before betting on Saturday's showcase, including our best expert picks to win MVP, the 3-point contest, and the skills challenge.

When it comes to handicapping any All-Star game, the single most significant factor is motivation. That's the case with the NFL's Pro Bowl and the NBA and MLB All-Star Games, and it'll be the deciding factor on Saturday, too.

If it was all about talent, Team USA would win in a landslide. The U.S. national team boasts arguably the 12-best players in the WNBA - yes, even with Clark off the roster - with two-time MVP winners A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart leading the charge for a truly star-studded group.

They should be plenty motivated, too, given all the hoopla around Clark and Reese, but especially the former. There's been a target on her back since she first stepped onto the court in May, and this is a quintessential opportunity for the WNBA's top veterans to show why they're the ones repping their country on Saturday.

WNBA All-Star Game MVP predictions, expert picks

Sabrina Ionescu ⭐⭐⭐Alyssa Thomas ⭐⭐

This should be treated as a novelty market, as predicting the MVP winner of a game with nothing tangible on the line is essentially an exercise in handicapping effort and playing time. That's why I'd recommend betting on two different players to win it.

Ionescu has been on fire lately, averaging 24.4 points with 3.8 made threes per contest over her last five outings. The three-time All-Star is also making her first appearance for Team USA, and there should be a chip on her shoulder while facing Clark, whose own hype has dwarfed that of the former No. 1 pick and generational shooter.

The New York Liberty Guard also made history the last time she was under the All-Star spotlight, and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Ionescu puts on a show Saturday.

This is also the first Olympic appearance for Thomas, a five-time All-Star and three-time MVP finalist whose game is a perfect fit for this type of showcase.

Thomas could easily finish with double-digit assists on Saturday, and the subplot of the forward facing off against Connecticut Sun teammate and partner DeWanna Bonner should earn the veteran some extra playing time - and potentially the MVP Award, too.

Best odds: Sabrina Ionescu (+850 via DraftKings), Alyssa Thomas (+3000 via BetMGM)

WNBA All-Star 3-point contest prediction, expert pick

Allisha Gray ⭐⭐⭐

I love betting on long shots in the 3-point contest, which naturally trends toward volatility and unpredictability. That's especially true with Clark and Ionescu, perhaps the league's most prolific 3-point shooters, opting out of this contest.

That's why I'm immediately drawn to Gray, a competent shooter making her second straight All-Star appearance. She hasn't been producing the best season from deep, shooting just 36% entering this weekend. But she hit six 3-pointers in a game earlier this season and possesses the smooth stroke needed to win this contest.

She's also dealing at +600 or shorter across the rest of our best sportsbooks, while these +850 odds via FanDuel are the longest for anyone in the field across the entire market. That's enough to coax me into placing a small wager on an event that, without Ionescu, is wide open for anyone to win this year.

Best odds: +850 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 10.53%

WNBA All-Star skills challenge prediction, expert pick

Marina Mabrey ⭐⭐

Two of the participants in the 3-point contest will also be competing in the skills challenge. Gray and the recently traded Marina Mabrey will participate after the latter was shipped from the Chicago Sky to the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday in a rare midseason move.

Mabrey's short odds in the 3-point contest don't compel me, but I do think she's well-suited to compete in this contest with something to prove, too. She's arguably the most versatile player in the field, leading all five participants in per-game assists (4.5) and ranking behind only Brittney Griner in rebounds (4.9).

Best odds: +330 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 23.26%
