Although the Liberty are on the road, it's a bit of a shock to see them favored by just 1.5 points. Our best sports betting sites might be suffering from a bit of a Clark bump with the way the MVP favorite played in the first two games of her sophomore campaign, but the Fever aren't ready for the defending champs.
Even with the small sample size, New York looks poised to make a run at winning back-to-back titles after a 2-0 start with an average point differential of +19.5. They beat the Las Vegas Aces and reigning MVP A'ja Wilson by 14 in the opener before making the Chicago Sky look like they belong in the WABA after beating them 99-74.
New York sits first in the WNBA in offensive rating (116.7). With the four-headed attack of Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, and Natasha Cloud, Indiana could be in big trouble. While the Fever played well defensively early in the season, they allowed the second-most points (87.7) and had the second-worst defensive rating (109.5) last year, and they have yet to be tested this year.
Clark is among the most talented players in the league, but she's also coming off one of the worst games of her WNBA career, scoring just 11 points and going 0-for-5 from 3-point range. It was the first time she hadn't hit a three in a WNBA game. If Clark isn't at her best again, the Fever will have a hard time keeping up against a defense that's No. 3 in rating (92.9).
Indiana hasn't proven it's ready to compete with the best yet and got outscored by an average margin of 93.8 to 74.3 across four games against New York last season.

This matchup doesn't favor the Fever, but that doesn't mean Clark won't put up MVP-level numbers. Even though she struggled the other night against the Atlanta Dream, I don't suspect that will deter her from putting up shots behind the arc, especially because the Fever will need her long-range game if they hope to upset the defending champs.
Before her 0-for-5 game against the Dream, Clark went 9-for-19 (47.4%) from deep in her first two games of the season. She's been on fire from three dating back to the final two months of last season, with Clark averaging 3.5 made threes per game in her previous 17 outings.
