Despite two straight losses, the New York Liberty remain heavy WNBA championship odds favorites as they head to Chase Center in San Francisco tonight at 10 p.m. ET (WNBA League Pass) to take on the Golden State Valkyries.

For as impressive as the Valkyries have been for a first-year expansion team this season, beating the Liberty is as tough a task as there is in the W. New York has already beaten Golden State twice this season, outscoring the Valkyries 177 to 144, with Breanna Stewart dominating both games with 51 points across the two outings. Golden State has played way above its weight class all season with a 7-6 record, which includes winning five of its last six. However, this offense just doesn't have the talent to keep up with New York's loaded lineup. The Valkyries have the third-worst offensive rating in the W (100.5), score the fourth-fewest points (79), and rank last in 3-point percentage (27.5%).

While Kayla Thornton has really stepped up for the team, banking on the 32-year-old to carry this offense against the team she was averaging fewer than six points per game for last year is a huge ask. Even with New York's defense struggling somewhat recently, it's still No. 1 in rating (96.7), allowing the third-fewest points per game (77.2), and holding opponents to the lowest field-goal percentage (39.4%).

Meanwhile, the Liberty's offense is the best in basketball - No. 1 in points (88.3) and rating (110.6) - and though it's down Jonquel Jones (ankle), Ionescu (neck) is expected to play. Her 3-point shooting should come in handy against a Golden State defense that's struggled on the perimeter.

The Valkyries have a winning record due to their strong defense, but their fatal flaw is their vulnerability in defending the perimeter. Golden State allows the fifth-most 3-pointers per game (8.8), and Ionescu has already taken advantage of it this season.

In two games against Golden State this season, Ionescu is 8-for-21 (38%) from behind the arc. That includes popping off for 24 points in their last matchup. Look for her to be the biggest difference-maker tonight, and hit three-plus 3-pointers for the sixth time in her last nine games.
