The trio of James, Durant, and Curry have expressed interest in playing with each other for years, and all three should be chomping at the bit for Sunday’s All-Star Game tournament. This year’s MVP market is a bit more intriguing to bet because of the new format.
Typically, the winner of the All-Star Game MVP is a starter on one of the two teams, but we can’t be sure who will be in the championship game this time around. Smaller rosters could mean the winner is a bench player, which is a rarity in this game.
Hometown hero Steph Curry is the clear favorite, while LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Edwards, and Damian Lillard headline the short list of notable players who are favored.

Curry at +550 feels like a solid bet, but it’s also the easiest and comes with the shortest odds. NBA MVP odds runaway favorite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and global phenom Victor Wembanyama are next before our pick to win MVP, LeBron James.
Voter fatigue? Apathetic fan base? Nah. James will be playing alongside two players with whom he's built a long and storied history, particularly in the Finals. While San Francisco belongs to Curry and once belonged to Durant, James is the elder statesman of the trio and will offer a reminder.
James is a student of the game and someone who always grasps the gravity of the moment. The oldest All-Star Game MVP ever is Shaquille O’Neal, who won it just a few weeks shy of his 37th birthday in 2009. That was Shaq’s third and final ASG MVP Award. Now James is playing as a member of Team Shaq, and he can defy Father Time yet again while breaking O’Neal’s 16-year-old record to become the first 40-year-old to win the award.
The legend can also win his fourth ASG MVP Award to tie Bob Petit and the trophy’s namesake, Kobe Bryant. Doing so as a member of the Lakers at age 40 and performing so well in the Bay Area will be too sweet of a moment to pass up for James, and we expect him to take home the Kobe Bryant trophy.
🎯 Long shot to win NBA All-Star MVP: Kyrie Irving (+3400 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐
Irving won this award 11 years ago, and we like his chances to do so again this season. He'll replace new teammate Anthony Davis on Team Shaq, which is the squad we expect to win. That gives him a boost right off the bat.
The veteran has been forced to do it all for Dallas this season, leading the Mavs to a 30-26 record despite several key injuries across the roster. Irving scored 30-plus points in three of his last five games before the break, including a 42-point, seven-triple eruption on Wednesday.
He can get hot in a hurry, and a flurry of buckets, flashy handles, and delicious dimes will be enough for Irving to capture the award in a game that’s capped at 79 total points. He’s built a great rapport with James, who could look to feed his old pal Kyrie all night if he chooses to be deferential with the rock.
We expect James to take home the award, but Irving will certainly get a puncher’s chance.
