Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault was locked into a tight battle for NBA Coach of the Year for much of the 2023-24 season. Yet he pulled away as the favorite across our best sports betting sites after a strong finish for the Thunder, as they ultimately clinched the No. 1 seed with the best record in the Western Conference.
That was enough to essentially seal this award for Daigneault, who beat out Jamahl Mosley (Orlando Magic) and Chris Finch (Minnesota Timberwolves) to win the award in his fourth season as head coach for Oklahoma City.
Daigneault secured 89 of 99 first-place votes after leading the Thunder to a 57-25 record in the regular season, their best mark since finishing 59-23 in 2013-14 when Kevin Durant was still on the team. While this was a close race for much of the year, it was no surprise to see Daigneault close as the heavy favorite in this market once the Thunder clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. They also ranked in the top five in both offensive and defensive rating and boasted an NBA MVP odds finalist in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
