The last two times we've seen Doncic on the court, he's made headlines. First, by getting ejected against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 16-point loss, and then by bouncing back by dropping 45 points on the Dallas Mavericks to make Nico Harrison look even stupider, if that's possible at this point.
However, he didn't touch eight assists in either game and has gone Under 7.5 apples in five straight. In April, he's averaging just six assists per game, and it doesn't look like the Rockets are going to be the team for him to break out of his assists slump against.
Houston allows the second-fewest assists per game in the NBA (23.4) behind a defense that's fourth in rating (110.2). The Rockets have been particularly stingy against point guards, too, holding them to the second-fewest assists per game in the league (4.65). Doncic will have a hard time cracking 7.5 assists against this unit.

The difficult question to answer when confidently betting on the Lakers tonight is whether the Rockets' trio of Alperen Sengun, Fred VanVleet, and Jabari Smith Jr. will be suiting up. All three are listed as questionable, and whether they're out there or not will likely determine whether Los Angeles covers.
But even if none of them take the court, Doncic could have a hard time splashing from beyond the arc with Amen Thompson, Jalen Green, and Dillon Brooks all set to play - all three are top 50 in defensive win shares. Houston's defense has been ravenous this season and allows the second-fewest 3-pointers per game (12.3), with opponents shooting just 35.5% from deep.
And they've been able to shut down point guards by holding them to the second-fewest made 3-pointers per game in the NBA (2.43). Meanwhile, Doncic has gone 22-for-60 (36.7%) from three in his last seven games.

As well as Houston has shut down point guards this season, one statistical category in which it has failed to keep them quiet has been steals. The Rockets are league average when it comes to allowing steals to point guards, with them averaging 1.57 per game against Ime Udoka's team.
Given how Doncic has been pickpocketing as of late, the plus-money odds from our best sports betting apps are a good value. The five-time All-Star is coming off a four-steal game against Dallas and has gone for at least two in five of his last eight games, which includes picking up two the last time he played Houston on March 31.
In that 104-98 win over the Rockets, Houston turned the ball over 15 times and the Lakers came away with 11 steals and had five players finish with at least two. Between Doncic's willingness to try and force turnovers and Houston's carelessness with the ball, he should be able to come away with Over 1.5 steals tonight.
