We view the Pistons as a sneaky bet to push the Knicks in this first-round series, and if that’s going to come to fruition, it has to be Cunningham steering the ship. Considering his recent success against New York, we like Cunningham to open the first NBA playoff series of his career with a bang.

Cunningham has dropped 31 points on the Knicks in consecutive meetings. He has also scored 35-plus points in three straight contests and four of his last five entering the postseason. He is red-hot, so this prop at 27.5 points shouldn’t be enough to contain him, despite the Knicks ranking 10th in the NBA in home scoring defense.

🔥 Jalen Duren Under 10.5 rebounds ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Detroit does a nice job on the glass in general, averaging 53.4 rebounds per game to rank inside the NBA’s top 10 in the category. But New York stifles opposing rebound chances and is one of three NBA teams to permit fewer than 50 boards per game to its opponents on the season.

The Knicks are particularly strong in limiting opposing bigs on the glass, which could impact Duren in his first career postseason game. Though Duran averages 10.3 rebounds per game and has been a monster on the glass recently, New York’s ability to shut down opposing bigs in that regard feels notable.

The fact that the line isn’t higher after Duren has grabbed 13-plus boards in four of his past six games could be a sign that the books anticipate a quieter effort for Duren in this game environment.

The Pistons rank near the bottom of the NBA in opposing 3-point percentage, allowing opponents to connect on 36.6% of 3-point attempts. Over Detroit’s last three games, that rate has increased to a notable 43.6%.

Interestingly, opposing big men in particular have had an inordinate level of success from deep against Detroit. That could spell opportunity for Towns, who averages two made 3-pointers per game on the season, averaging 4.7 3-point attempts per game.
