Many will be quick to back the Red Storm in their own building, but oddsmakers have inflated this line too much, especially since neither regular season meeting with Butler was decided by more than eight points. St. John's won 70-62 and 76-70 in the two regular season meetings.

St. John’s has covered just one of its last five games with a double-digit spread. Meanwhile, Butler is 2-0 ATS playing on no rest since Thad Matta took over as head coach in 2023, and is 8-7-1 ATS against ranked opponents in his tenure.

The Red Storm have an advantage over most teams on the glass, but the Bulldogs outrebounded them in each of the regular season meetings.

Butler also had six players score between eight and 13 points in the last regular season meeting, which means Rick Pitino cannot use elite defenders like Kadary Richmond and RJ Luis to key in on any one or two players.

Richmond has played 33 or fewer minutes in three of the last six games, and there is a chance Rick Pitino monitors his minutes even more closely in this tournament setting with no days off between games.

However, slightly fewer minutes than he is used to has not slowed Richmond down from a rebounding perspective.

Richmond has pulled down seven or more boards four times in that six-game stretch. He finished with six rebounds apiece in each of the regular season meetings against Butler, but did not grab a single offensive rebound in either game. 

Considering St. John’s ranks ninth in the country in offensive rebounding percentage, I expect Richmond to contribute some offensive rebounds. His seven offensive boards in the last two games are enough for me to back this play with four stars of confidence.
