Houston vs. Tennessee Player Props

No. 1 seed Houston (33-4) faces No. 2 seed Tennessee (30-7) in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, battling for a spot in the Final Four. Tipoff is set for 2:20 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (CBS), with the Cougars serving as 3.5-point betting favorites.

This game is projected to be a rock fight with the lowest projected total of any of the four Elite Eight matchups (O/U 123.5). What does that mean from a player prop perspective?

Our Houston vs. Tennessee player props and parlay odds take a contrarian approach and back the Overs on plays involving Zakai Zeigler and J’Wan Roberts despite the game projected to be a defensive struggle.

We cashed a three-leg parlay that paid +701 odds with our Duke vs. Arizona player prop predictions and are looking to continue that momentum with our March Madness predictions in the Elite Eight.

Houston vs. Tennessee betting insights

  • Bettors at BetMGM aren't heavily favoring either side against the spread, with Tennessee getting a narrow advantage while generating 53% of the action at +2.5.
  • There's a clearer majority of the action on the total, with 64% going toward the Over at 125.
  • The spread spent much of its time so far at -3.5 in favor of Houston before shifting to -2.5 overnight and again early this morning.

🔥 Chaz Lanier Under 2.5 made 3-pointers ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Chaz Lanier is on pace to shoot better than 40% from 3-point range for a third straight season. But Kentucky may have laid a blueprint for how to defend the sharpshooter, holding him to 1-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

Lanier soared Over this total with four or more made threes in two of the previous three games, but he has also made two or fewer threes in four of the last six.

This is a confident four-star play, as the combination of this game being played in a cavernous football stadium - which typically doesn’t suit a shooter’s eye - and Houston’s elite defense should hold him Under this projected total.

🔥 Zakai Zeigler Over 7.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐

Anytime I can get Zakai Zeigler, the player with the highest assist rate in SEC play (41.9%) and the fourth-highest assist rate in the country (42.1%), at plus-money odds for his assist total, I am going to jump at the opportunity.

BetMGM has the longest odds for Zeigler to finish with eight or more assists, even though the Volunteers point guard has done so in three of the previous four games.

Tennessee’s team total O/U is 60.5 points, but Purdue’s Braden Smith just tallied 15 assists on the team’s 21 made field goals against Houston, and Zeigler can take the game over in much of the same way.

📊 Best odds: +115 via BetMGM ($10 to win $11.50)

🔥 J’Wan Roberts Over 6.5 rebounds ⭐⭐

With this game having a projected total in the low 120s, it figures to feature plenty of missed shots. And with each team boasting an offensive rebounding percentage that ranks in the top 20 in the country, at times their best offense may be a missed shot.

Roberts has eight or more rebounds in back-to-back NCAA Tournament games, which coincided with playing 32-plus minutes in two of three games since missing time in the Big 12 tournament.

I would not pay up in juice to back this Over, but at plus-money odds, it’s worth a flier.

📊 Best odds: +104 via FanDuel ($10 to win $10.40)
