  • Bettors at BetMGM have been fairly split on the spread, which makes sense given how lopsided the matchup is
  • However, there is much more decisive action on the total, as 69% of the handle is on the Over
  • Iowa State briefly served as a 15.5-point favorite, but this spread settled back at -14.5 just hours before tipoff

✅ Lipscomb to cover the spread: +14.5 ⭐⭐⭐

Five Cyclones average at least 10.8 points per game, but only four of them will be on the court this March, as Keshon Gilbert is set to miss the entire tournament. Gilbert averages 13.4 points per game, and he leads the Cyclones with 4.1 assists per contest.

Without Gilbert, the Bisons will keep this within single digits, and potentially even pull off the upset. The Bisons average 77.7 points per game, while allowing just 67.8. Of course, that’s primarily against Atlantic Sun competition, but with the Cyclones missing a key offensive piece, the Bisons should be able to hold the Cyclones well below their season average.

Ultimately, Iowa State will escape this game with a victory - it does have four players averaging double figures after all. But Lipscomb’s offensive prowess will be enough to keep this close, as the Cyclones adjust to life without one of their best scorers.

🔥 Jacob Ognacevic Under 6.5 rebounds ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Since we only saw the Cyclones play one game without Gilbert, I’m not confident backing any of their players, as I don’t know exactly what the offense is going to look like. Therefore, my best play of the game is backing one of Lipscomb's key players to struggle in a tough matchup.

Ognacevic is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game, but most of his success has come against Atlantic Sun competition. He did pull down eight rebounds against the Kentucky Wildcats earlier this season, but he only managed six against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Ognacevic stays out of foul trouble, so he should be able to remain on the court for the majority of this game. However, the Cyclones are allowing just 31.8 rebounds per game (32nd in the nation).

Ognacevic is stepping up to take on arguably his toughest challenge of the year. Taking him to struggle in this matchup, especially for the price, is the best player prop of the game.

📊 Best odds: +115 via BetMGM ($10 to win $11.50)

🎯 Score prediction: Iowa State 74, Lipscomb 66

Gilbert’s absence will keep the Cyclones under their season average by a pretty significant margin. They won’t just miss his ability to score; they will also miss his ability to create scoring opportunities. Lipscomb held Arkansas to 76 and it allowed fewer than 68 points per game throughout the year.

The Bisons will stay in this game thanks to their 46th-ranked 3-point shooting. Meanwhile, the Cyclones rank 134th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage. Lipscomb could pull off this upset, but I think it’s more likely they lose a relatively close game that sees Iowa State pull away late.

🤖 Iowa State vs. Lipscomb AI prediction

For entertainment purposes, we asked ChatGPT to analyze historical trends and live NCAA Tournament stats before predicting the winner and exact score for Iowa State vs. Lipscomb. Our AI prediction projects a final score of Iowa State 82, Lipscomb 68.

🖥️ AI score prediction: Iowa State 82, Lipscomb 68

  • Iowa State’s coaching staff has significant NCAA Tournament experience, which is valuable in March Madness. Lipscomb lacks this kind of experience.
  • Iowa State’s defense could stifle Lipscomb’s offense, especially if the game gets physical and fast-paced. Iowa State’s rebounding and defense in the paint could be significant advantages.
  • Historically, the Bisons have been offense-oriented. They've been involved in high-scoring games and relied on sharp shooting.

🤔 Betting takeaway: ChatGPT's AI prediction would mean Lipscomb covering the spread (+14.5) and a total of Over 143 points. ChatGPT is not a dedicated sports betting model, but it can identify data that March Madness bettors might overlook.
