The Purdue Boilermakers and Indiana Hoosiers renew their in-state rivalry on Sunday afternoon. Purdue’s 81-76 home win over Indiana on Jan. 31 likely seems like forever ago for the Boilermakers, who are amid a three-game losing streak for the first time this season.

But our Purdue vs. Indiana prediction and odds expect the Boilermakers to get right in this rivalry game while sweeping the Hoosiers for the second straight season.

In many ways, Indiana was more difficult to guard in the first matchup despite getting just eight minutes from Malik Reneau, who fouled out in his third game back from injury.

The smaller Hoosiers lineup averaged 1.12 points per possession and shot 36.8% from 3-point range. But 20 turnovers undid them, and turnovers are something Purdue’s defense has thrived on all season (second-best turnover rate in Big Ten play).

Since that first meeting, Indiana head coach Mike Woodson announced he was stepping down at the end of the season.

The Hoosiers have looked like they played under a lame-duck head coach for a while now, losing six of their last seven games. Indiana covered easily as 12-point underdogs in the first meeting, but it is under .500 (5-6-1 ATS) against ranked opponents since the start of last season.

Purdue point guard Smith has a D-I best 45.4% assist rate and a conference-leading 44.1% assist rate in league play.

Smith ranks second among Big Ten players in league play in percentage of minutes and controls his team’s possessions at the 12th-highest rate. This matchup sets up perfectly for a big assist game from Smith, as Indiana will likely use drop coverage a ton with Oumar Ballo, whom the Boilermakers will attempt to bring away from the basket.

Smith had seven assists in the first meeting between these teams despite the Hoosiers forcing him into his second-lowest offensive rating in a Big Ten game this season.
