South Carolina remains atop the Women's March Madness odds despite its recent loss to Texas and UCLA's continued dominance.

While Dawn Staley attempts to bring a second straight title back to Columbia, the Bruins look like the most impressive team and are closing the gap on the Gamecocks, who they beat earlier in the season.

After those two programs, UConn, Notre Dame, USC, and Texas are the only other teams at our March Madness betting sites with odds shorter than 28/1 to win the NCAA Tournament.

  • South Carolina: After winning last year's title, South Carolina opened as the clear favorite to repeat with the bulk of its championship-winning team returning, but they've dropped games to UCLA and Texas
  • UCLA: The Bruins' early win over the Gamecocks was proof that Cori Close's team is for real, trending toward earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament thanks to women's Wooden Award odds favorite Lauren Betts
  • UConn: Geno Auriemma and Paige Bueckers have the Huskies looking like a threat once again, but a recent loss to Tennessee hurt
  • Notre Dame: With Hannah Hidalgo carrying a top-notch offense, the Fighting Irish already have three key wins over UConn, USC, and Texas
  • USC: Led by JuJu Watkins, the Trojans have one of the best offenses in the country and beat the Huskies earlier this season; however, they recently fell to Iowa

South Carolina March Madness odds (+225)

Women

South Carolina has won two of the last three NCAA Tournament's and has reached the Final Four in four straight seasons. It doesn't look like much will change this year with so many of last season's key players back in the fold.

The Gamecocks are one of the most well-rounded teams in the country and have a rotation that goes nine-deep, led by star guards Te-Hina Paopao, Raven Johnson, and MiLaysia Fulwiley. If Staley can lead South Carolina to back-to-back titles, a $10 bet pays a $22.50 profit - it helps that its losses to UCLA and Texas have lengthened these odds slightly.

UCLA March Madness odds (+400)

Women

Only two teams have handed the defending champs a loss this season, and one of them was UCLA when the Bruins blew the Gamecocks out by 15 on Nov. 24. A lot has changed since then, but UCLA keeps winning and could earn the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Thanks to center Lauren Betts, the Bruins have a dominant force inside on both ends of the court. She's a complete game changer the way Kamilla Cardoso was for South Carolina last year... which is why UCLA is the only non-South Carolina program I'd consider backing.

UConn March Madness odds (+600)

Women

As Auriemma tries to end his dry spell at UConn - the Huskies haven't won an NCAA Tournament since 2015-16 - Bueckers is again living up to her billing as one of the most talented players to ever play in Storrs. With the star point guard leading the way, UConn has one of the best defenses in the country and should earn a top-two seed in the NCAA Tournament.

However, the Huskies have already lost to the Fighting Irish and Trojans, which is why I don't love that their odds are in a similar range to both, especially after the recent loss to Tennessee. They play South Carolina in mid-February, and another loss could lengthen these odds.

USC March Madness odds (+750)

Watkins has taken the torch from Caitlin Clark as the most prolific scorer in women's college basketball, and in a few years, she might even break a few of the former Iowa star's records. With Watkins running the show for Lindsay Gottlieb, nobody is going to want to see the Trojans in March.

Her ability to take over games is terrifying, and wins over UConn and Maryland showed why. And the Trojans aren't a one-star team. Kiki Iriafen is the perfect front-court complement to Watkins and those two could give any team a run for their money.
