The San Francisco 49ers meet the Green Bay Packers for the first time since last year's divisional round in a game that comes with huge implications for the NFL playoff odds in the NFC.

The two teams enter this matchup tied for seventh in the Super Bowl odds, with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy a long shot in the NFL MVP odds.

  • San Francisco is coming off its third divisional loss this season when leading with two minutes remaining
  • The 49ers are .500 or worse through 10 games for the seventh time in the last 10 seasons
  • Green Bay improved to 3-0 this campaign following a loss after winning its 11th consecutive game against the Bears

Green Bay is anywhere from a 1.5- to 2.5-point favorite, and all of our best NFL prop betting sites are in unison with a total of 47. Kickoff from Lambeau Field is set for 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.

Injury concerns mounting for 49ers

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy injured his right shoulder against the Seahawks last week, and he won't play Sunday in what could be a pivotal game for his team's NFL playoff odds.

Tight end George Kittle didn't play in last week’s loss to the Seahawks while nursing a hamstring injury, though he's declared himself healthy for Sunday. And Nick Bosa has already been ruled out after leaving last week with a hip/oblique injury.

Packers can limit 49ers through the air

Purdy clearly missed the services of Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk last week, as his 159 passing yards were the second-fewest during a start in his career. That doesn't bode well for Brandon Allen, who will start under center on Sunday.

Deebo Samuel hasn't been helping matters much, as he's logged just one game with at least 19 fantasy points this season after six such outings last year. He and the 49ers face a Packers defense that's allowed one top-15 fantasy wide receiver in the last six games.

The Seahawks held San Francisco under 20 points for the first time since 2018. And San Francisco’s red-zone issues are becoming troubling, as it ranks 26th in touchdown rate.

Green Bay controlled last year’s playoff game

The Packers entered the fourth quarter of last year’s road divisional-round game against the 49ers with a 21-14 lead, and they didn't surrender that advantage until there was 1:07 left.

Green Bay missed golden opportunities to pad an early significant lead, as it made red-zone trips on each of its first three drives before settling for two field goals and producing a turnover on downs.

The Packers became the first team in 20 years to reach the red zone on their first three drives of a playoff game without recording a touchdown.

I'm backing this play with two stars of confidence, as Green Bay’s last three wins have come by a total of six points, while San Francisco’s five losses are by 23 total points. Those looking to side with Green Bay are getting the best number at BetMGM, as all other competing NFL parlay betting sites are at -2 or -2.5.

Christian McCaffrey Over 72.5 rushing yards ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: -110 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 52.38%

With Purdy ruled out for this one, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kyle Shanahan use Christian McCaffrey as a true workhorse this week.

Green Bay ranks dead-last in open-field rushing yardage allowed, according to FTN. The elusive McCaffrey should get the opportunity for chunk gains after getting through the first wave of defenders.

49ers beat writer Nicholas McGee noted that fellow 49ers running back Jordan Mason is tied for 10th with 19 explosive runs, and Isaac Guerendo is eighth in EPA/rush with a minimum of 20 carries. That suggests there's a path for a solid day for McCaffrey.

Caesars is offering the Over as high as -120 (carrying a 54.55% implied probability), so I'm heading to BetMGM for the best price while making one of my NFL Week 12 predictions.
