Discombobulated and disjointed don't do the San Francisco 49ers' preseason justice. Mediocre play has combined with the team's off-field drama, with Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams as the headline acts for the latter.

Friday represents one more preseason chance for Kyle Shanahan's offense to show a semblance of fluidity, with the team facing the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium (kickoff at 10 p.m. on NFL Network).

The 49ers are expected to play their starters (those who are available) for a limited time in Las Vegas, while the Raiders will go with their backups throughout.

After Gardner Minshew won a highly competitive battle in Sin City for the top quarterback job, head coach Antonio Pierce will hand the reins to roster hopefuls Carter Bradley and Nathan Peterman.

That should provide the 49ers the edge they'll need to cover the 7.5-point spread in our 49ers vs. Raiders predictions and picks.

Shanahan turned his offense over to Klay Kubiak against the New Orleans Saints during Week 2 of the preseason, and the assistant quarterbacks coach gained valuable play-calling experience.

However, Kubiak's first preseason taste of being the maestro was about as sour as a pint of lemon juice. It didn't help that the backups were seemingly reading from an entirely different playbook.

Brock Purdy was 2-for-6 passing for 11 yards while enduring a grotesque opening cameo performance. Last season's NFL MVP odds finalist will get another chance against the Raiders.

But unlike last week's game against the Saints, Shanahan will be calling the shots, and most available starters should join Purdy for at least a series or two.

After Purdy's brief outing, which will surely be better than his first preseason act, Joshua Dobbs will take over the signal-calling duties. The veteran journeyman is seasoned and competent enough to produce productive, mistake-free drives against a second-string Raiders defense.

While I'm not taking anything away from the Raiders' backup defensive personnel, several of whom will fight with everything to make the 53-man roster, the 49ers should be able to cover easily.

Raiders quarterback duties left to Carter Bradley and Nathan Peterman

Pierce confirmed that Aidan O'Connell will get the night off after losing a month-long quarterback battle with Minshew.

That leaves Bradley and Peterman in charge.

Peterman hasn't seen any preseason action and has started five regular-season games during his six NFL seasons.

Meanwhile, Bradley was 8-for-13 passing for 56 yards against the Cowboys, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt.

The undrafted rookie out of South Alabama is fighting for a roster spot and should get most of the snaps. The 49ers' defense will do its utmost to provide a hostile environment for the inexperienced quarterback.

You'll earn a $9.52 profit on a $10 bet if the 49ers record at least an eight-point win.
