The Washington Commanders kick off the 2023 season with a matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, and we're here to provide our top Cardinals vs. Commanders predictions based on the best NFL odds.

Expectations for the Arizona Cardinals are low after their 4-13 season in 2022, and it's not hard to see why. The Cardinals will rely on Josh Dobbs at quarterback to start their 2023 season due to Kyler Murray's prolonged absence. Dobbs performed decently for the Tennessee Titans last year but was unable to secure victories in his two starts.

In Week 1, they face the Washington Commanders, a team with much more excitement surrounding their quarterback situation. Sam Howell is taking the helm, and despite playing only one game in 2022, there are high expectations for the young quarterback from North Carolina. Supported by a run game featuring Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson, the Commanders appear poised to be one of this season's surprise offensive teams.

Here is our best Cardinals vs. Commanders prediction (odds via our best NFL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

The storyline for this game is simple when making your NFL best bets for Week 1. The Commanders have a decent offense going against a terrible defense, while the Cardinals have a very bad offense going against a very good defense. When you add it all up, the Commanders are the easy pick even with the spread hitting the key number.

Washington allowed just 20.2 points per game last season, an NFL seventh-best. In Dobbs' two starts in 2022, Tennessee averaged just 14.5 PPG.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals’ defense allowed 26.4 PPG last year, the league's second-worst mark. Even though Howell will go through some growing pains under center, there's no reason he can't take advantage of a weak defense with all the weapons he has.

Even if the Commanders were to score only 21 points in this game, that should be enough for them to cover this spread. The Cardinals may not even hit double-digits, making Washington the easy play with our NFL Week 1 predictions.

Cardinals vs. Commanders best odds

DraftKings (-110)

DraftKingsFanDuelBetMGMCaesarsPointsBet
-7-7-7-7-7
-110-114-110-110-110

All five or our best sports betting apps moved this spread to the key number. FanDuel offers an elevated price of -114, so it's the only book we'd recommend staying away from.

As for the other best sports betting sites, since we don’t have a good read on the total, we don’t have any parlay suggestions. So, confidently wager at any of the four books. FanDuel's price does suggest this spread will continue to move in the Commanders' favor. Get in as soon as you can to avoid that extra half-point.

Cardinals vs. Commanders odds analysis

The Commanders opened as 6-point favorites, and saw all the love from the betting public. Over 67% of wagers back the Commanders to cover. This support moved the line to a full touchdown at just about every one of our best sportsbooks. With the Cardinals’ woes well-documented, it’s hard to imagine the line dropping back below the key number before kickoff.

The total opened at 38, and stayed put. More than 55% of bettors back the Under, but there's been no movement, and we don’t expect any. The Commanders could hit this number by themselves if their offense is as good as many think. But the Cardinals are a huge unknown, and may struggle to hit double digits.
