FanDuel NFL Promo Code: Falcons vs. Panthers
Expectations were low for the Atlanta Falcons heading into this season, as not many knew what to expect following the departure of starting quarterback Matt Ryan – who had been under center for nearly every game since 2008. His replacement, Marcus Mariota, hadn’t been an NFL starter since 2018 and began the year looking rusty. Things have improved since Week 6, including three straight performances where Mariota posted a quarterback rating of 105 or greater – before last week’s dud against the Los Angeles Chargers.
One of the Falcons’ greatest motivators has been the wide-open nature of the NFC South. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were expected to clinch the division with ease, but have been grossly underperforming on offense and find themselves tied with Atlanta for first place – with identical 4-5 records. Mariota has unfortunately struggled to find his weapons with consistency as well, but there’s still time for the likes of wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts to find their stride.
Rookie running back Tyler Allgeier has been a nice surprise, and he’ll be in a good spot to break free for some chunk yardage plays against a porous Carolina Panthers defense on TNF. Only two other teams have yielded more rushing yards to their opponents this season, which is good news for the Falcons as their other back Cordarrelle Patterson is set to return from injury. Third-string back Caleb Huntley may also see a handful of touches, and don’t forget about the mobility of Mariota himself.
Atlanta is likely to lead for most of this game, meaning they won’t be forced into a passing game script. This is significant as their cumulative 1,561 passing yards ranks 29th in the league, with little to suggest that number will improve. That shouldn’t be a problem this week, considering Carolina really isn’t beating anyone these days and presents a far lesser challenge following the departure of their former star running back Christian McCaffrey.
