While the Patrick Mahomes factor is always front and center, his influence in the opener will probably be matched by Lamar Jackson, last season's MVP. Mahomes is the NFL MVP odds front-runner this year, while Jackson is attempting to win his second straight award.
Both teams will almost invariably be in the mix to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 59, but it will take the Ravens slightly longer to adjust and adapt to their substantial personnel changes since last season's run to the AFC Championship Game.
Ravens' new-look defense, and offensive line needs time to gel
The departures of Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Queen and Jadeveon Clowney change the complexion of the Ravens' pass rush and overall defensive look.
Zach Orr will step into the fire in his first game as Baltimore's defensive coordinator, facing the NFL's best quarterback, arguably the best tight end, and a rookie wide receiver in Xavier Worthy blessed with more pace than a cheetah in his prime.

Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson are also gone, putting pressure on a new-look offensive line. While Jackson is more elusive than a lively jackrabbit, it will be more challenging working behind three new starters.
Left guard Andrew Vorhees hasn't played an NFL game, right guard Daniel Faalele has been asked to play in a new position, and veteran right tackle Patrick Mekari has started 36 games over his five-year career.
Last season, the Chiefs were 8-5 against the spread as 3-point favorites or more and they won 10 of 16 games when favored on the moneyline.
