How to bet on the Super Bowl Coin Toss

The first step toward betting on the Super Bowl coin toss is to choose a legal sportsbook and sign up. Many of our sites with the best sportsbook promos will feature lucrative offers tied to the Super Bowl.

Finding the actual prop can be half of the battle. At most sites you'll find your coin toss odds choices under Novelty, Specials, or Game Props.

You need to choose the market you'd like to place your wager on. Some options are the heads or tails prop and the winner of the coin toss prop. Most of our best sportsbooks will offer equal odds on either side of the market. Confirm your wager, and you're all set.

The coin toss will determine who receives the ball first during each half of the Super Bowl. Once placing your bet, you can tune in live to watch the coin toss before the start of the game.

Most top sportsbooks will settle the bet almost immediately, although there may be slight delays given the volume of action during the Super Bowl.

When is the Super Bowl Coin Toss decided?

The Super Bowl coin toss is decided ahead of the opening kickoff.

Traditionally, the "visiting" team calls the outcome of the coin toss. This season, that's the Kansas City Chiefs. While the reigning champions haven't announced which player(s) will get the honor, quarterback Patrick Mahomes has taken it in the past.

Tails gets a slight edge, coming up 30 times compared to 28 occurrences for Heads.

The Dallas Cowboys own the distinction of earning the most Super Bowl coin toss wins with six. The Chiefs would move into a tie for third with the Miami Dolphins if they win their fourth coin toss this year. They've won the Super Bowl two of the three times Kansas City has taken the toss.

The Eagles have won the coin toss twice, and they failed to take the game both times.

What do Super Bowl odds mean?

Summary of American odds:

  • Negative odds (-): Indicates the favorite, and how much you need to bet to win $100. For example, -150 means you need to bet $150 to win $100.
  • Positive odds (+): Indicates the underdog, and how much you would win if you bet $100. For example, +200 means a $100 bet would win you $200 if the underdog wins.

When placing a bet, you’ll also typically encounter the term "juice" or "vig", which is the sportsbook's commission. Most bets are listed at odds of -110, meaning you’d have to bet $110 to win $100.
