The Super Bowl is right around the corner, and millions across the globe are preparing to watch the Big Game with family and friends. Kickoff for Super Bowl 2025 is set for Sunday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. ET (FOX) from the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, which means it's never too early to start preparing.

Our Super Bowl party dos and don’ts highlight proper party etiquette for guests and hosts alike with three things to do and not to do as you watch Chiefs vs. Eagles in Super Bowl 59.

Tips for your Super Bowl party

Do: Make sure the setup is adequate

Have you ever shown up to a Super Bowl party to find out the only available viewing option is a small television? It's one of the most disappointing feelings, and the evening doesn't get any better. While your brain will be racing trying to find any excuse imaginable to head home, it's rude to bounce early.

Therefore, we're appealing to hosts specifically with this first tip.

Hosts owe it to their guests to have an adequate setup ready to go before visitors come in the door. Seating arrangements are noteworthy, of course, but they're not a deal-breaker at the end of the day - people can stand if need be. The same is not true for the size and quality of a television, which can make or break the entire viewing experience.

Don't: Watch unregulated streaming services

Similar to the last note, poor streaming quality can ruin the big evening. Whether it's buffering, choppy audio, or a fuzzy picture, streaming issues make football fans more angry than a referee throwing a flag on Philadelphia's defense for breathing on Patrick Mahomes.

StreamEast is a perfectly acceptable viewing alternative when you're watching by yourself - right, LeBron? - but not for a party. From the unreliable and unpredictable streaming to the barrage of NSFW advertisements on illegal streaming sites, hosts are much better off relying on regulated networks for their Super Bowl 59 party.

Don't be the one caught without cable or a subscription service on Super Bowl Sunday, or it could be the last time you host.

Do: Separate eating and viewing areas

This is more of a recommendation for hosts rather than an unwritten rule. Space permitting, you'll want to separate dining and viewing areas. We aren't suggesting guests eat their food away from the television; we're speaking more to the storage space for the refreshments.

Setting up plastic tables - at least the ones left unbroken by Bills Mafia - in the living room near the television is never the way to go. This setup has the potential to create chaos and obstruct the view of others. The phrase "you make a better door than a window" exists for a reason, folks.

The ideal Super Bowl party features a place for refreshments right off the living room or whichever space you choose to watch the game. This ensures that there will be minimal disruption in the line of sight for guests as they enjoy Kansas City winning its third consecutive Lombardi Trophy.

Don't: Show up empty-handed

We're sticking to the topic of food, but this tip is for the guests. Please do not show up empty-handed to a Super Bowl party. The exception to this rule, of course, is if you're told explicitly not to bring anything. Even then, some adult beverages or bags of ice are nice party favors to fall back on.

There is a large onus placed on the host, as we'll discuss in our next 'do.' Therefore, it's nice to help them out in entertaining others wherever possible, as well as thank them for welcoming what is sure to be a rowdy group of football fans into their home for a few hours.

Stock up on these essentials leading up to game time. Alcoholic drinks, chips of any variety, ice, or even paper plates, silverware, and napkins work. Your contribution to the gathering doesn't have to be significant, but it's simple party etiquette.

This guideline is especially true for those who plan on consuming food or drinks during the game - you don't want to freeload.

Do: Have drinks and snacks prepared

The biggest Super Bowl party foul for hosts is not having the essentials ready for guests. It goes without saying every party is different; they'll eat different foods, they'll have a different audience, etc. Nevertheless, no party prep is done without readying the essentials.

Hosts should have drinks - be it alcohol, soda, or water - ready for consumption. Bonus points for refreshments already submerged in ice from a cooler or maybe even an extra refrigerator. These are some basic ground rules for hosts as it's nice to open up your liquid arsenal when you welcome family and friends to your humble abode.

The same goes for snacks. Most Super Bowl parties will have dinner plans, likely on a grill or in an oven. Hosts should have sides, such as chips or other appetizers, ready for guests to much on in the meantime. If all else fails, snacks are a fallback option for food.

Consider this your reminder, too, that this is one of the biggest days of the year for popular local restaurants and pizza spots. Don't make the mistake of relying on them to deliver in a timely manner without planning ahead.

Don't: Talk about your bets

There are several things people can do to ruin the Super Bowl experience for those around them, and it's all about reading the room. The general rule of thumb is to not talk about your bets. Similar to your fantasy team, nobody wants to hear about them. This is unless they're riding with you or the room is full of degenerates, in which case, talk away.

People consume football in different ways, and we learn that in certain social settings. Some love to listen to the commentary, whereas others complain endlessly about how much Joe Buck sucks (he doesn't, but like Nickelback, it's become "cool" to hate on him). Some also like to pay attention to the commercials, and talking about bets extensively ruins that experience for those individuals.

This tip simply suggests you consider others before speaking on certain topics. If it's during commercials, halftime, or the game, someone in attendance could be interested in what's happening on the television - at least more so than your bets.

If you do need to rant about your bets during the Big Game, you can always humor me on social media.
