The find game of the 2023 NFL preseason features the Houston Texans against the New Orleans Saints as we look at our Texans-Saints predictions for Sunday Night Football based on the best NFL odds.

There's only one more preseason game standing between us and meaningful football. But don't just gloss over this final tune up. There's value to be found in preseason betting.

The Houston Texans have yet to name their starting quarterback for the regular season and will give No. 2 overall draft pick C.J. Stroud one last chance to grab the bull by the horns. The starters will get about two series before ceding time to younger players.

The New Orleans Saints have been hitting on all cylinders in preseason action. They announced Friday that Jameis Winston will draw the start at quarterback with rookie Jake Haener rotating in afterward.

Here is our best Texans vs. Saints prediction for Sunday Night Football (odds via our best NFL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

The only insight we have into this matchup is that the Texans will play their starters for about two series and Derek Carr will sit for the Saints. Youngsters and players on the roster bubble will get most of the run in Sunday's game, with roster cutdown day looming. With the motivation high to win jobs and positions on the depth chart, I'll be taking the Over on 37.5 points at BetMGM, with most of the best sportsbooks hanging 38 points.

Backup quarterback Davis Mills should play the majority of the game, as veteran Case Keenum was held out of the Week 2 contest with nothing left to prove. The same goes for on the Saints sideline. Winston should get the majority of the first quarter but expect to see Haener for much of the contest.

How will this translate into points? Winston and Haener have led all but one of the Saints' drives this preseason and New Orleans have come away with victories of 26-24 and 22-17. Winston is a borderline starter in the NFL and Haener has proven to be a capable backup.

Mills also spent 2022 as the Texans' starting quarterback and that experience has served him well this preseason.

I expect more high scores on the indoor track of the Caesars Superdome.

Texans vs. Saints odds analysis

The Saints opened as a heavy -185 favorite, but with word Stroud will start and Carr will sit, the odds have dropped to the -135 to -160 range. The point spread opened at -3.5, but most books are hanging -3 at the time of writing.

There's been minimal movement on the total, as it opened at 38 and there only a few 37.5s scattered across sportsbooks.
