Norris Trophy Odds 2025: Makar the Runaway Favorite, Werenski Way Behind

Stop us if you've heard this before. Cale Makar will almost certainly win the Norris Trophy.

The Norris Trophy odds race is all but wrapped up as the playoffs near, with Cale Makar the runaway favorite across our NHL betting sites to win for the second time.

His implied probability of winning the award is 96.15%. While the trophy isn't in his hands yet, it appears it will be. Despite an admirable effort amidst a remarkable season, the Columbus Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski will fall short of his ultimate goal.

Here are the 2025 Norris Trophy odds as the season winds down.

🗻 Cale Makar Norris Trophy odds (-2500)

Makar reached the 30-goal plateau for the first time in his career, surpassing his previous best of 28 in 2021-22, the year he won his first Norris Trophy. He joins Mike Green as the only defenseman to score 30 goals in the last 30 years. Makar is atop the scoring chart for defensemen by a wide margin, taking full advantage of Quinn Hughes being forced to miss time with an injury.

There's no value in backing Makar now, as a $10 winning bet would profit a piddly $0.40.

🐝 Zach Werenski Norris Trophy odds (+1300)

For an extended period, Werenski looked primed to challenge Makar. He was even trading ahead of the Avs' prodigy at one point. Unfortunately, the weight of carrying a team became too much for Werenski, whose Blue Jackets fell out of the playoff race like a skydiver jumping out of plane. He has six points in a 13-game span after posting a point a game for most of the campaign.

Take nothing away from his season, though, as Werenski exceeded all expectations. And he still has a 7.14% chance of winning the award. Had the Blue Jackets been in a playoff position, we might be discussing an altogether different scenario.

How to read Norris Trophy futures odds

Reading Norris Trophy odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +500 or -200. Positive odds (e.g., +500) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +500 odds would win you $500, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $600. Negative odds (e.g., -200) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $200 bet at -200 odds would win you $100, plus your $200 stake, totaling $300.

These odds also reflect the probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (e.g., +300) suggest a higher likelihood, while higher odds (e.g., +2000) indicate a lower probability.

Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on performance, injuries, trades, and betting patterns.
