After both teams played on Saturday, the Washington Capitals will host the Edmonton Oilers at Capital One Arena today (1 p.m. ET, TNT).

The Capitals destroyed the Pittsburgh Penguins 8-3, while the Oilers lost 6-3 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Our Oilers vs. Capitals prediction expects an immeasurably more lively and engaged performance from Kris Knoblauch's team, who will look to end Washington's 15-game home-point streak.

🚨 Game pick: Oilers ML (-125 via Betway) vs. Capitals ⭐⭐⭐
🚨 My best player prop pick: Evan Bouchard Over 0.5 assists (-120 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My best Oilers vs. Capitals pick & score prediction

The Oilers must be better than they were in Philly on Saturday, and I expect them to take advantage of a situational matchup, which I'll go into more below. I'm predicting the Oilers to win 4-3, going Over 5.5 goals (-130).

🏒 Oilers ML ⭐⭐⭐

While the Oilers are the Stanley Cup odds front-runners and they're the top choice in my Stanley Cup predictions, I'm not sure they deserve to be the -125 favorites entering the lion's den at Capital One Arena, where Washington is 10-0-5 in the last 15, outscoring opponents 54-35.

The Caps are tied for the fourth-best home points percentage (.741).

Meanwhile, the Oilers were negatively impacted by the two-week layoff in their first game back against the Flyers, losing the expected goals battle 4.11 to 2.3. With just two shots on goal, Connor McDavid was a minus-three and had no points. However, I can't see them coming out as flat for the second day running, especially against one of the league's best.

Who has the advantage in the second game of back-to-backs?

Both teams will likely go with their backup netminders after the starters played on Saturday. The Caps are 2-3-0 in the second game of back-to-backs with Charlie Lindgren in goal. Since Nov. 25, they are a league-best 24-5-7. However, Washington has struggled comparatively with Lindgren between the pipes.

The 31-year-old American has lost seven of his last 10 starts and six of the previous eight. Meanwhile, the Oilers — with the second-best record since Nov. 25 (23-9-2) — are 2-1-0 in the second game of back-to-backs on the road with Pickard in goal.

Pickard has won six of his last seven starts and is 10-2-0 in the previous 12 games. That matchup is the primary reason I'm backing the Oilers to win.

🎯 Final score prediction: Oilers 4, Capitals 3

With both backup netminders likely starting and the Oilers coming off a dud, I like the Oilers to prevail 4-3.

💰 Evan Bouchard Over 0.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bouchard has at least one assist in five of the last six games and seven of the previous nine. He failed to notch a helper against Philly, but I expect a more impactful offensive performance from Bouchard in the nation's capital. The defenseman has nine assists in the last 11 Oilers road games.

Best odds: -120 via Betway (bet $10 to win $8.33)
