Sharks vs. Avalanche Prediction & Odds Tonight: Best Picks and NHL Player Props

Will the San Jose Sharks, who end their seven-game road trip in Colorado tonight, have enough juice to stick with the Avalanche? We dissect the best bets for Thursday's game.

The San Jose Sharks culminate a seven-game road trip at Ball Arena in Colorado tonight against the Colorado Avalanche (9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).

While the Sharks have won two in a row for the first time in over two months, they'll have their work cut out against one of the Stanley Cup odds contenders. The Avs are on a three-game home winning streak, outscoring opponents 14-4.

Our Sharks vs. Avalanche prediction believes it to be a precarious spot for the visitors, who are playing their seventh road tilt in 12 days.

📈 Sharks vs. Avalanche odds movement

  • The Avs opened as -425 favorites and have since moved to -450
  • The Sharks opened as +320 underdogs. Their odds lengthened to +340
  • 61% of the bets and 29% of the handle is on the Avs at BetMGM
  • Over 6.5 goals (+100) moved to Over 6 goals (-120). Under 6.5 goals (-120) moved to Under 6 goals (+100)

🚨 Game pick: Avs -1.5 (-152 via FanDuel) vs. Sharks ⭐⭐⭐⭐
🚨 My best player prop pick: Valeri Nichushkin Over 2.5 shots (-125 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My best Sharks vs. Avalanche pick & score prediction

I'm predicting the Avs will beat the Sharks 5-2 in a game with seven or more goals.

🏒 Avalanche -1.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

You have to hand it to this Sharks team. Despite being outmatched, outgunned, and outclassed in every NHL arena, they rarely go belly up.

They fight until the bitter end, best exemplified by their recent eight-game losing streak in which they lost by one goal five times, six if you include the game against the Ottawa Senators, where they conceded a late empty-netter.

That's impressive resilience for a team that had lost 14 of 15 before stringing together back-to-back wins in their last two games. However, Thursday marks their seventh game on the road in 12 days. Plus, San Jose has just made the cross-country trip from Buffalo.

They must be exhausted, entirely out of gas.

I'm relying on the Avs, who've been cooking at home lately, to take full advantage of the Sharks' weary road legs. Colorado has scored at least four goals in three straight games, all of which they won by at least three.

While I commend San Jose's guile and never-quit attitude, I feel playing an in-form Colorado team at altitude at the end of a grueling road trip is a recipe for disaster.

🎯 Final score prediction: Avalanche 5, Sharks 2

As the Sharks have played seven games over 12 days on the road, I'm predicting the game will finish 5-2 Avalanche.

💰 Valeri Nichushkin Over 2.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nichushkin has recently picked up his shot production, hitting the Over on this prop in seven of the last eight contests. The Avalanche average 30.6 shots per game at home, while the Sharks allow 32.5 on the road, the fourth most.

Considering the factors and the Sharks' road weariness, I expect the ice will tilted, particularly regarding shots on goal.

bet365 offers the most competitive odds of our best sports betting sites, with an implied probability of 55.56%. That's an appealing price, considering Nichushkin has hit the Over at an 88% rate in the last eight tilts.

Best odds: -125 via bet365 (bet $10 to win $8)
