The Washington Commanders have already surpassed their entire win total from a 2023 campaign in which they compiled a miserable 4-13 record and finished dead last in the NFC East standings.

That result, though, at least earned the Commanders the second-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and they selected quarterback Jayden Daniels from LSU. Now Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, has led Washington to a promising start to this NFL season that sees the team leading the NFC East.

And Daniels’ performance to date hasn’t gone unnoticed by the best sports betting sites as he sits amongst elite quarterback company atop the odds to have the top-selling jersey of the NFL season.

Daniels is the +125 betting favorite at FanDuel Canada to have the NFL’s top-selling jersey this season, and the names just below him on the list are all well-established stars.

Daniels leads Mahomes, Allen on NFL jersey odds

Daniels and the Commanders lost their Week 1 outing against the Buccaneers on the road at Tampa Bay, but then rolled to four straight wins over the Giants, Bengals, Cardinals, and Browns before losing to the Ravens in Week 6. Daniels threw six touchdown passes and ran for four more scores in those six games.

Washington then bounced right back this past Sunday with a 40-7 drubbing of the Carolina Panthers to move to 5-2 on the season, despite Daniels departing the blowout win early with a reported rib injury.

All that has Daniels sitting as the favorite on the odds to have the top-selling NFL jersey this season ahead of a strong group of established quarterbacks whose merchandise is ubiquitous at their home stadiums – the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is listed next at +170 odds, followed by the Bills’ Josh Allen at +200, and both the Ravens’ Lamar Jackson and the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers at +260.

Also at +260 is the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, whose on-field stats might be on the decline but whose off-field popularity certainly shows no signs of cooling down. Kelce taps into a market that the others do not.

Stroud one to watch on odds as Texans impress

C.J. Stroud might not yet have the name recognition of a Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, or Rodgers, but the Texans quarterback has shown over the first two years of his NFL career that he’s going to be a major force in the league. Stroud, with his team atop the AFC South standings, is at +500 on the odds to have the top-selling NFL jersey for this season.

Another one to watch is the Bears’ own rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who sits back at +1100 odds. The Bears are better than most expected so far this season, and Williams was the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, making him the logical selection for a new jersey purchase by the large Chicago fanbase.

Pair of Niners stars are longer shots – for now

Star Niners running back Christian McCaffrey has yet to play this season due to an Achilles injury, leaving him out of sight, out of mind when it comes to generating NFL jersey sales. Still, McCaffrey is expected back this season, and the Niners’ march to the Super Bowl last year boosted him to the top of the NFL jersey sales chart.

McCaffrey can’t be ruled out of returning to that top spot if he comes back healthy and the Niners manage to get on a roll; he and teammate Brock Purdy sit at longer-shot +950 odds to have the top-selling jersey of the NFL season.

Others that sit farther down that odds list right now that had strong jersey sales last season include Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (a lucrative +3900) and Cowboys teammates CeeDee Lamb (+1300) and Micah Parsons (+1700).

The Cowboys especially have an incredibly rabid fanbase, but some inconsistent (to say the least) results so far this season could suppress the jersey sales for all of their star players.

Hard to wager against Mahomes in this spot

So who’s the pick here?

Daniels is the current betting favorite, and as a rookie this is the first opportunity that Washington fans would have had to buy his jersey. Stroud is making a real name for himself with the Texans, and popular players from the Niners and Cowboys have longer and therefore more lucrative odds.

However, it’s hard to wager against Mahomes, with the Chiefs looking like the top title contender once again and last year’s data showing that players on Super Bowl teams do well on jersey sales.

My Pick: Patrick Mahomes (+170)
