Kentucky's legal sports betting progress

Governor Andy Beshear signed the Kentucky sports betting bill into law on March 31, 2023. This law allows both online and retail sports betting in the state. Online sports betting will start at 6 a.m. ET on September 28. Residents started to pre-register for accounts as of August 28, 2023 at 6 a.m. ET, ensuring they're ready to bet when the system goes live. New users can start to deposit beginning on September 7, aligning with the launch of retail sports betting.

The new law permits nine retail sportsbook locations, matching the number of horse racing tracks in Kentucky. These locations can offer in-person betting services starting September 7, 2023.
