After most of the league enjoyed a tuneup as heavy favorites at our college football betting sites during the opening weekend of the season, Week 2 is when the real fun begins for the Big 12.

Several members of the Big 12 will travel for intriguing non-conference battles, including Kansas (at Illinois), Kansas State (at Tulane), and Texas Tech (at Washington State).

Our Big 12 predictions believe each school will experience a test in these environments as part of our Week 2 college football predictions.

A win on the road in these environments could go a long way towards boosting these programs' College Football Playoff odds.

We also featured some Big 12 action in our Week 2 college football expert picks.

Avery Johnson Over 0.5 interceptions (+106) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

While sophomore quarterback Avery Johnson is talented - and considered a Heisman Trophy odds dark-horse - there will be some growing pains in his first season as the full-time starter, with Will Howard now at Ohio State.

That much was evident in Week 1. Johnson finished 14-for-21 with 153 passing yards against UT Martin, throwing two touchdowns and one interception.

Now he gets a road test against a Tulane team that has won double-digit games in back-to-back seasons.

I’m interested in Johnson’s plus-money price to throw an interception. Bettors can get a $10.60 profit by placing a $10 bet on this prop at Caesars.

Illinois first-half spread +3.5 (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

For the first time in eight years, Memorial Stadium will have a sell-out crowd when No. 19 Kansas comes to town to face Illinois.

The Jayhawks raced out to a 28-7 lead in the first half of last year’s 34-23 win over Illinois in Lawrence, but a lot has changed in one year.

Kansas has a new offensive coordinator after Andy Kotelnicki left to take the same job at Penn State, and the offense looked out of rhythm in the opening weekend.

The Fighting Illini understand the importance of a strong start in this matchup, and the first-half spread offers value when the full-game line is just 5.5. I’m comfortable taking the home underdogs early in this game as long as we get the hook.

Texas Tech vs. Washington State Under 66.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

In Week 1, both of these teams played 100-point games. Texas Tech won 52-51 over Abilene Christian, while Washington State won 70-30 over Portland State.

Naturally, early movement on the total for this Week 2 matchup has moved up from 65.5 to 66.5. But that might be a bit of a market overreaction, especially since both teams had a total in the 50s a week ago and averaged about 24 seconds per play last season.

This would be a four-star play at 67, but I’m still recommending the Under as a three-star pick at 66.5.
