Tennessee vs. NC State Prediction, Picks & Odds: Week 2
Quarterback Nico Iamaleava was as advertised in Tennessee’s Week 1 win over Chattanooga, and if he manages a repeat performance against NC State, you can forget about cramming this hype train back into the station in Knoxville.
Our Tennessee vs. NC State prediction is backing the Vols’ redshirt freshman quarterback to put together another impressive showing in Week 2.
The action gets underway at 7:30 p.m. ET from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, and Tennessee serves as a 9-point favorite.
We took a deeper dive into the action with our college football predictions for Week 2, and Iamaleava is featured in our college football best bets.
We also featured this game in our Week 2 college football expert picks.

Tennessee vs. NC State spread prediction: Week 2
Tennessee -9 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tennessee looked dominant on both sides of the ball in its opening 69-3 win over Chattanooga. Understanding that this week’s matchup against a ranked opponent inherently poses more of a challenge, I’m not enthused by NC State after their opener against Western Carolina.
Underwhelming Wolfpack?
NC State actually trailed Western Carolina heading into the fourth quarter before pouring on 21 unanswered points to win the opener, 38-21.
I’m not sure the Wolfpack have the ability to fix enough of their flaws in a one-week span to hang with a Tennessee team that's a contender among the College Football Playoff odds.
It’s only one week of data, but Tennessee ranks as a top-10 team in the country in total efficiency, while NC State performed as one of the overall least efficient teams in the nation (123rd in FBS) in Week 1, factoring for opponent quality.
The discrepancy suggests a point spread that should sit in double digits. At -9 with -110 odds at DraftKings, Caesars, and bet365, this is a four-star play.
Best odds: -110 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 52.38%
Tennessee vs. NC State player prop
Nico Iamaleava Over 255.5 passing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
NC State had a solid enough pass defense last season but still allowed an average of 218.9 yards per game. In the opener against FCS Western Carolina, Catamounts QB Cole Gonzales found more success than you probably wanted to see against the Wolfpack secondary.
Has Iamaleava arrived?
Gonzales, who also posed a threat on the ground with 75 rushing yards, was 22-for-35 for 211 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Barring a quick turnaround and improvement, that spells trouble for NC State against Iamaleava’s arm.
Iamaleava racked up 314 yards and didn’t play the full game in the opener. In a more competitive game that should require his services for four quarters, that will only mean more time to pad the stats.
DraftKings has this prop at 261+ yards with -115 odds over Over. It’s even loftier at Caesars and bet365, with Iamaleava’s passing prop at 265.5 yards.
We like this prop as a five-star play up to 259.5, so bettors should hit this one at FanDuel, as it’s just 255.5 yards with -114 odds on Over.
Best odds: -114 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 53.27%
