Motivation shouldn’t be an issue tonight for the Maple Leafs, who have had a couple of days to think about Wednesday’s humbling 5-1 home loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Head coach Craig Berube has also told reporters that he’ll demand emotional investment from his squad after the Leafs looked flat in a 3-0 loss to the Senators earlier this year.
At the other end of the rink, I’m not convinced the Senators should be favored against many teams at the moment. Not only have the Sens been blanked in back-to-back games, they’ve failed to score a single goal in five of 11 games this month. Brady Tkachuk hasn’t recorded a point in nine straight games, and Ottawa has managed more than two goals just one time in its last six.
The Leafs have excelled in the road underdog role this year, collecting points in six of seven games in that situation (4-1-2). Look for them to improve on those numbers tonight as they look to avenge their recent loss to the Senators and atone for Wednesday’s ugly showing.

With Matthew Knies out of the lineup tonight, some expected Max Domi would be the forward chosen to take Knies’ spot on Toronto’s top line. Instead, it’s McMann who is getting moved up for tonight’s affair with the Senators, and it’s a promotion that’s well-earned.
Despite skating for much of the season on the Leafs’ third forward unit, McMann ranks third on the team with a dozen five-on-five goals. That extrapolates to 1.34 goals per 60 minutes, and McMann is averaging nearly 10 shots per 60 minutes of five-on-five action this year.
Playing with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner doesn’t just mean more scoring chances, it should also mean more time on the ice. I’m opting to play the Over 2.5 shots at plus money, but McMann Over 0.5 points is also worth considering at -115.
