2024 PGA Championship Odds & Updated Betting Lines: Scheffler Opens Week as Favorite Over McIlroy
The PGA Championship odds were shaken up across our best golf betting sites as Rory McIlroy ran away with victory in the Wells Fargo Championship. That win helped him close the gap on Scottie Scheffler with the two set as heavy betting favorites for the second major of 2024.
And just like that, Rory McIlroy is a legitimate contender by the PGA Championship odds as he and the major return to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. McIlroy won the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla GC, the last time the major was held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed venue.
McIlroy ran away with a five-stroke victory in the Wells Fargo Championship, his fourth victory in the event and first (solo) win of 2024. He'll now look to win his third career PGA Championship and do so at the same venue where he last won a major 10 years ago.
Scottie Scheffler set himself as the unquestioned betting favorite by the PGA Championship odds with his second Masters victory in three years. That was Scheffler's third of four victories thus far in the 2024 PGA Tour season, and he locked himself into the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
Meanwhile, Chris Gotterup claimed the final spot in the PGA Championship field with victory in the Myrtle Beach Classic this week.
Here are the best PGA Championship odds for 2024 (odds via our best sports betting sites).

Favorites for the 2024 PGA Championship
Scottie Scheffler (+400 via FanDuel)
Scheffler created a lot of separation between himself, and the rest of the PGA Championship favorites at our best sports betting apps. The best odds available before the Masters were +650 via Caesars. A lingering outlier +550 ticket for him to win the PGA Championship shortened considerably following the RBC Heritage.
Scheffler's market-low +300 odds from Caesars represent an implied win probability of 25.00%. It seems silly, but there's not much of a case to build for betting against Scheffler in any event right now.
Rory McIlroy (+800 via bet365)
McIlroy's PGA Championship odds were offered as high as +1500 before the start of the Wells Fargo Championship and odds around +1000 were still available on Saturday prior to his incredible final round at Quail Hollow.
While that was McIlroy's fourth career victory at Quail Hollow, he'll look to replicate that success at another venue where he has won before. There were no weaknesses in his game this past week, and this victory, coupled with his team win in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, should have his confidence at a new high.
Brooks Koepka's PGA Championship odds
+1400 via BetMGM
Koepka still carried PGA Championship odds as high as +2100 just two weeks ago. After winning LIV Golf's Singapore event, those odds have shortened significantly to this market high of +1400.
With Caesars still offering the market low of +1200, there remains value in this offering. The defending PGA Champion is the biggest threat to Scheffler and McIlroy this week.
Tiger Woods' PGA Championship odds
+22000 via FanDuel
There's zero reason to bet Tiger in any major. His greatest strength in the Masters is his experience at Augusta National, and he doesn't hold as great a share of that benefit at the other major venues.
This new market-high odds of +22000 represent an implied win probability of 0.45%, and even that's generous for someone who'll be happy to make the weekend at Valhalla.

How to bet on golf
Betting on golf involves understanding the various types of bets available and how to assess player performance. First, familiarize yourself with the different types of bets commonly offered in golf, including outright winner bets, each-way bets (which cover both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups between two players, and proposition bets on specific events within a tournament, such as hole-in-one occurrences or individual player performances on certain holes.
Once you've identified the types of bets you're interested in, research the players, course conditions, recent form, and other relevant factors that could influence outcomes. Pay attention to factors like player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may affect a player's performance.
How to read golf odds
Here's how to read golf betting odds using American odds format:
- Positive odds: Positive odds indicate the potential profit on a $100 wager. For example, if a golfer has odds of +300, it means that a $100 bet would yield a profit of $300 if the golfer wins the tournament. So, your total payout would be $400 ($300 profit + $100 original stake).
- Negative odds: Negative odds represent the amount you need to wager to win $100 in profit. For instance, if a golfer has odds of -200, it means that you would need to bet $200 to win $100 in profit if the golfer wins. Your total payout would be $300 ($100 profit + $200 original stake). In a tournament like the Masters, it's unlikely to see negative odds on any golfer until late in Sunday's final round while using our best live betting sites.
Understanding these American odds allows you to quickly assess the potential payout and implied probability of a golfer winning a tournament. Positive odds indicate an underdog, while negative odds signify a favorite.
Odds will move leading up to a tournament's start and throughout the event. Live odds will be reflective of the current leaderboard, golfer performance, and the position of the pre-tournament favorites. The odds also factor in the popularity of certain golfers, and how much money the sportsbooks have taken on those golfers to win the tournament.
