Tuesday marks a battle between two perennial contenders as the New York Yankees welcome the Houston Astros to Yankee Stadium, and we're offering our top Astros vs. Yankees player props and expert picks based on the best MLB odds.

Despite reeking like the most pungent cheese, the Houston Astros remain among the World Series odds contenders. Its pitching staff has the second-fewest fWAR leaguewide, and aside from not striking out, its offense has been decidedly mediocre.

On the other hand the New York Yankees are flying thanks to offseason addition and MLB MVP odds favorite Juan Soto. New York is 23-13 and just one game back of the Baltimore Orioles for first in the AL East, and that's with Aaron Judge starting the season relatively slowly.

Will the offenses shine when first pitch is thrown at 7:05 p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium? Or are we in for a pitcher's duel featuring future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander?

To complement our MLB best bets for Tuesday and Blue Jays vs. Phillies player props, here are our best Astros vs. Yankees player props and MLB picks (odds via our best MLB betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Astros vs. Yankees expert picks

Juan Soto Over 1.5 total bases  ⭐⭐⭐

This game features two of the American League's best hitters in 2024, and our first pick focuses on the total bases Over for the man with the third-best wRC+ in all of baseball (behind only Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts).

Juan Soto is tearing the cover off the baseball in his first season with the New York Yankees. His Statcast page is absurd on so many levels, as he's somehow become even better than Soto was with either the Washington Nationals or San Diego Padres.

Our best sports betting sites know this, too, and they do their best to limit the value on Soto's Overs knowing the public wants to support one of baseball's best hitters. However, even with those adjustments, we're getting nearly 12.5% positive expected value on Over 1.5 total bases for Soto based on his projections Tuesday.

Best odds: +135 via bet365

Jose Altuve to record more total bases than Anthony Volpe ⭐⭐⭐

Our second pick backs the other aforementioned soul-destroying hitter in the AL, as Jose Altuve ranks just behind Soto in 2024 with a 177 wRC+, and he's been vaulting up the AL MVP oddsboard as a result.

The best price on Altuve's Over 1.5 total bases on Tuesday is +130 via BetRivers, and those odds are providing us with just better than 13% +EV based on Altuve's projections.

Meanwhile, when looking at Anthony Volpe's projections, you'd be getting roughly 12% minus expected value on +130 odds.

The only risk with these head-to-head matchups is that you lose on a tie. But our edge is so significant here that we'll risk that to get a price five points better than if we played Altuve's total bases Over.

Additionally, we can still win even if he goes Under 1.5 total bases but manages one hit to Volpe's zero.

Best odds: +135 via bet365

Kyle Tucker to record more total bases than Giancarlo Stanton ⭐⭐⭐

We face a nearly identical situation with this head-to-head play as the previous one.

The best price on Kyle Tucker going Over 1.5 bases is +145, and we're getting roughly 14% +EV on that bet based on his projections. If you were to bet his Over total bases prop at Caesars' +129 odds, it'd be 6.5% +EV.

The latter is important because the best price on Giancarlo Stanton's Over 1.5 total bases prop is +130. However, based on his projections, you'd get roughly 7% -EV if you bet that Over.

Therefore, this once again comes down to the edge we're getting based on the projections for these two players. We'll bypass Tucker's Over 1.5 total bases to get better odds with the potential to win on even one single, as Stanton is expected to endure a rough night at the plate Tuesday.

Best odds: +150 via bet365
